** Click here to read a review
of Tracy and Mike Davenport's newest book, "Making Life Better for a Child
with Acid Reflux" **
From the Author:

Making Life Better for a Baby with Acid
Reflux is a book written by parents of a child who suffers
from severe reflux for parents of a child (or children) who
suffer from reflux.
There are a lot of ins and outs of dealing with the
emotionally and physically draining times that can accompany
caring for a baby with acid reflux. Making Life Better for a
Baby with Acid Reflux can help guide you through them.
At my request, the author of "Making Life Better for a Baby with Acid
Reflux" recently sent me a copy of the book for me to review. The
following is my evaluation of the book.
This is a great book for parents who are beginning their battle with
infant reflux. It is a quick and easy read - perfect for parents who
are sleep-deprived and need help coping with what they're going through.
I was able to read the book in about an hour, uninterrupted. However,
for new parents who do not have that luxury, the book is divided into 10
short chapters. Great for reading here and there when small chunks of
time become available. However, if you are new to infant reflux, I
strongly encourage you to read the book in its entirety as soon as possible
to get the full benefit of its information.
In the opening chapter, the author makes it clear that the book is not
intended as a "woe is me" story, nor does it provide medical advice,
recommendations or diagnostic assistance. The purpose of the book is
to guide readers on how to survive life with an infant who has reflux.
As mentioned, the book discusses 10 steps/chapters for coping with infant
reflux:
- Understand How Dang Hard This Might Be
- Remember that the Baby Isn't Bad; the Pain Is!
- Take Charge
- Be Sure They Are Working for You
- Research It to the Bone
- Build Support
- Recharge Your Batteries
- Stay Healthy
- Be Prepared to Spend Money
- Know That It's Not Over Until It's Over
Each chapter goes into detail, providing valuable information on ways to
handle the various aspects of reflux. Some chapters have charts and
questionnaires to help the reader better understand their situation.
When infant reflux is a concern, the focus is on the infant and how the
infant is doing. The emotions and well-being of the parents are quite
often forgotten. Chances are, you're not doing too well and feeling
unequipped to handle the situation. "Making Life Better for a Baby
with Acid Reflux" arms you with knowledge and coping mechanisms. It
will empower you so that you can be proactive in your infant's care.
You're going to doctor appointments and you're following the doctor's
instructions, but you are probably wondering what else you can be doing to
help your infant. A critical step you can take is to take care of
yourself. This book guides you on how to take care of yourself so you
are more prepared to take care of your infant while battling reflux.
Doctors can help you with the medical side of dealing with infant reflux,
but they rarely prepare you for what is in store for you, the parent,
emotionally, physically, financially and socially. This book fills in
that gap and not only provides caveats for what may come up, but also
provides ways to deal with those situations when they do arise.
For those who have just received the diagnosis of reflux, or are still in
the early stages of diagnosis, this is a valuable resource. It will
better prepare you for what may lie ahead when dealing with infant reflux.
You won't have all the answers when you finish the book, but you will surely
be more empowered and equipped to get those answers to "make life better"
for your baby.
