You might have noticed that I haven't updated the journal in a few days.  Well we have had a horrible week!!  As the week progressed, Garrett got fussier and fussier and slept less and less.  We had no idea what was wrong.  We hadn't changed a thing!

Tuesday he was absolutely monstrous.  I had put him down in the morning and he fell asleep, but then he woke up screaming.  He had green snot coming out of his nose, so I called the doctor.  The triage nurse seemed to think he had picked up a cold, but I'm not so sure about that.  I just wonder if it's green from all the snot he probably digests from refluxing?  Anyways, her only advice was to give him Little Noses with Decongestant, which I didn't do.  He screamed for hours and hours in the evening.  He finally fell asleep around 9ish.  He ended up sleeping some during the night but is no longer giving us the 5-6 hour runs from before.  It was more like every 2 hours.

It wasn't much better on Wednesday.  He did OK during the day, but the evening was AWFUL!  We decided to go out to eat with both of the boys.  BIG MISTAKE!!  We put on quite a show for the patrons.  Garrett could not be consoled.  I walked him, to no avail.  Riley was fit to be tied ( and I mean that in the most literal sense!! <VBG> ).  We finally had to get the check and leave.  I wanted to strangle them both!!

I had decided that our  sling is just too big for Garrett and I don't think it's comfortable for him, so we switched back to the Snuggle Nest until I can order a smaller sling.  We got a few more hours out of him.

I also wondered about taking him off of the Prilosec to see if he really needed it.  So I stopped giving it to him on Wednesday.  If I notice any discomfort in his spit ups then I will put him back on it.  I just wondered if that was causing him trouble.  I would have changed the formula back too, but figured one thing at a time.

Yesterday I have to say, was much better.  I had sort of thought in the back of my mind that Garrett was just plain hungry.  He seemed to be getting bigger and I wondered about a growth spurt.  I had my 6 week checkup yesterday ( my how time flies ) and my midwife wondered about a growth spurt.  After hearing her musings, I decided that I was going to feed that baby however much he wanted until he got content.  I figure, if he's going to scream with me feeding him the amount the pediatrician said to give him, then he might as well scream after he's gotten a full tummy.  At least then, maybe he will have a few moments of contentment.

Well, we have been giving Garrett 3 ounces about every 2.5 to 3 hours.  I'm only supposed to be giving him 2-2.5 ounces.  Yesterday afternoon he got 4 ounces.  And he slept for *4* hours straight during the afternoon!!  I had to wake the child up to eat dinner!!

I don't know if that's going to be the end of this awful period, but it hasn't been too bad since yesterday afternoon.  He still wasn't sleeping for an extended period of time last night, but it wasn't bad.  He even went  back to sleep for a couple of hours after his feeding this morning.  So we shall see.

Once again, let this just be a lesson that even though I have been through this once before, I am still playing the guessing game with my second son.  That's all you can and hope that you either find the right solution or that they grow out of it by the time you give up!  :)

The BMs have gotten much better and he is now having them on his own.  I had forgotten that I used to put pear juice in Riley's bottles when I thought he was having trouble.  I put some in his bottle yesterday just to see if it will help keep him regular.

I am still giving him Levsin drops when things are bad and Gaviscon before feedings when it's ok.

Last night we gave him an oatmeal/pear juice bottle before bed.  I don't know which is the culprit, but he has had HORRIBLE gas since during the night and through this morning ( It's Friday ).  It doesn't seem to be hurting him too much, but I am giving him Gaviscon regularly to help.  I might have put too much oatmeal in it too soon.  I'm just trying to get him to sleep longer at night.

He is still having a BM early morning, so again - looking for suggestions on how to change THAT clock!! <G>

I hope to get back sooner than later.  It has just been one of those weeks!!  Hope you all have a HOPPY EASTER!!!!
