| Today we took Garrett to his
two-month checkup. He weighs 12 lbs. 7 oz. and is 23 inches long.
The pediatrician said that we should keep Garrett on Nutramigen for
at least another 4-6 weeks. She said that it was fine for him to
be drinking about 4 oz. of formula every 3 hours. He is in the
75th percentile for weight, so she said that if he drains the 4 oz. that
he can have another 1/2 oz. She said I could keep bumping it up by
a half ounce until he's satisfied.
She also said that it's ok to keep Garrett off of the Prilosec as
long as he doesn't seem to get too uncomfortable from the reflux.
I asked her if there was any concern about long term affects of the
reflux. She said no, that if he was two years old then she might
want to put him on something, but that as long as he seems comfortable,
then it was ok to leave him off of the medicine. I just wondered
if even though the spit up doesn't seem to hurt him, if it could cause
erosion in the throat. She didn't seem to be concerned about
anything like that at this point.
We will continue to keep Garrett on the apnea monitor to allow him to
sleep on his stomach until he is strong enough to be rolling over on his
own.
I was supposed to ask her about cereal in his bottles and when solids
could first be introduced. Well, I forgot. This happens to
me all the time. I usually try to write my questions down, but I
didn't have time to do that and of course, I forgot some things I wanted
to ask.
We plan on trying the rice cereal again in his before-bed bottle.
We'll give 1 tsp. cereal/oz. I've just been waiting to try it
again because it made him so gassy a couple of weeks ago. Then we
lost the Levsin drops. But I've got new drops and he's a couple of
weeks older now, so we'll probably try it again this week.
Garrett pushed up on his hands while on his tummy and raised his
head. The pediatrician said, "Look at that!!" He continues
to impress her with his strength! |
