Keeping In Touch : Need some prayers

    Author: Cooper's mom
Subject: Need some prayers
Posted: 11 March 2010 at 2:09pm

Hi Ladies
I am so happy to be able to post something that is non reflux related, but sad that I am even having to post at all.
Caroline was 8wks old yesterday. We noticed last Friday that her right eyelid was swollen so we have been watching it. Yesterday it looked redder than usual so I took her into to our ped, had an appt with the nurse practicioner who is a friend but she brought our ped in as well b/c they were concerned. They sent us straight to the eye doctor (the ped specialist is of course on vacation this week) and everyone seems to think it is a hemangioma underneath her eyelid... UGH so we are about to go follow up with the eye doctor again shortly and then will most likely see the ped eye doctor next week. They put her on antibiotics in case it is just an infection but noone seems optimistic that that is the case. If this were on any other part of her body I wouldn't be so worried but she can't open her right eye all the way b/c of the "swelling" and they are concerned that it may affect her vision. I just think that the more people who send up prayers/positive thoughts the better off we will be. I'll keep everyone posted as I find out more.
TIA

Today is my first day on the new diet so it will also be the first day I have completely cut this stuff out.

This will be a very demanding schedule for me. Constantly logging my food intake, his feedings, and stools. Feeding every two hours will mean less sleep and less time for social activity(especially since he will no longer take a bottle at all). I am more than willing to do this if it will help him.

My question is has anyone done anything similar? What were the results?
It helps so much to know what your experiences were. So many moms tell me their children have/had ear tubes but many of them do not also have reflux and our kind of sleeping issues in the mix, as well. I am hoping so much that this will improve things. The ped gi wants to do an endoscopy too, and I'm calling today to see if he's doing a ph probe as well. Anyways, I really appreciate your thoughts. This forum has done so much for us, even though i've used it sparingly with Norah and I've been largely absent with trying to handle two and not sleeping well this time around, either. Just knowing that this is there in the world to ask a question or to get support is amazing. Thanks.

--anne

    Author: erica22
Subject: baby beginning to only sleep feed
Posted: 10 March 2010 at 8:49am

Hi everyone,
I am new to this group and was happy to find that I am not the only one this has happened to. My son Jason is 4 months old and from day one has been a cranky baby. I breast fed for 10 weeks but found it difficult because of poor latch and constant pulling off the breast.
He is now on formula and for the first week seemed to be enjoying the bottle and drinking about 4 ounces every 2.5 hours. At three months to the day, Jason started moving a lot while feeding and arching. Not crying but very wiggly. I mentioned it to my MD and he watched him feed. He said that he thought he was just a mover and nothing else. He was on prilosec at that point 1.6ml two times a day. I accepted his answer but still thought something was up.
Now at four months, Jason whimpers at the bottle and arches the minute it goes in his mouth. It is like taming a wild animal to get him to drink a few ounces. At about the three ounce mark I lose him and he will not go back. My MD watched this the other day and now agrees with me that he is uncomfortable. We switched him to prevacid 15mg once a day to see if that helps. He takes a good 5-6 ounce bottle in that sleepy state and that is how I am getting his best feeds in. He is gaining weight because of that.
I am nervous because my 5 year old daughter was a sleep feeder and only would take a bottle in that state. SHe was hospitalized at 5.5 months because her GI MD thought it was behavioral and wanted to get her really hungry to see if she would take the bottle awake. so we basically tried to starve her and only offer the bottle to her awake. SHe would maybe take an ounce here and there. After days in the hospital she was not getting any better and they sent us home and said to keep doing what I was doing hoping she would eventually grow out of it. My miracle with her was that when she got home she got the rotovirus and because she was so dehydrated from the diarrhea she started crying for the bottle. Exactly what they were trying to accomplish in the hospital. She went from 0 ounce bottles awake to 8 ounce.
I can not believe that this is happening to me again. I didn't think it was possible. I have a pit in my stomach and feel like anxiety is starting to set in. I just hope that Jason will grow out of this and that the prevacid will help.
I have an appointment with Gastro for him on the 19th. We shall see.
Any suggestions as to what you do that works?? I can't hope for another virus!
ANy other success stories of babies accepting the bottle awake? He is so wiggly and uncomfortable when he does try to drink.
thanks so much.
erica
