I wanted to know how common it is for a baby to run a high fever while teething.  Ilan started with a low grade fever on Saturday (yeah, great holiday we had :(  and it completely went away on Sunday.  Monday morning (at 1 am) DH woke me up saying that Ilan is burning up.  He had a fever of 102.8  Needless to say I was freaking out but luckily we were able to get it down.  Since then it's been flactuating.  We saw the dr in the morning and she said that it's not teeth b/c with teeth it's usually a low grade fever and doesn't get this high.  Yet it's not flu, strep throat, ear infection or any other infection we can think of b/c she ran a series of tests (swab, blood).  Then what the heck is it??  I was pretty sure it was b/c of the teething b/c he's been miserable for the last couple of weeks, biting on everything, etc...So, did your baby ever run a high fever due to teething?

This is just a hunch but..... When Ryan starts teething he gets a low grade fever. Then he starts shoving everything in his mouth. Next thing you know he has a high fever and lots of other problems. So my hunch is that the teething makes them want to put more stuff in their months so they end they are exposing their systems to more germs and they end up with a virus of some sort which makes them even more miserable.

Could be teething, but it usually is a low-grade fever.

Anything else happen over the last week or so?  Any immunizations, as these can sometimes cause a fever too.

i would say NOT teething as well.. never heard of teething causing such a high fever.

most likely.. his body is just fighting something. when you get a high fever.. your body is fighting whatever is trying to attack it.  which is one good reason for the high fevers.
shane had this happen before.. just a fever and nothing else. then the fever broke and he got a runny nose!

I would say just a run of the mill virus that won't show on any tests... just needs to run it's course......

I'm thinking virus too. Cooper has only had one high fever and that was after he had his febrile seizure and we ran tons of tests never did figure out what happened. His temp got up to 103 something and we had to do round the clock tylenol/motrin to keep it "down" it took from Thursday until Monday with round the clock meds for it to finally "break" and he was fine... never really acted like anything was wrong. I don't doubt he is teething but I think the fever isn't related to that and he is probably miserable from his teeth hurting and the fever. I hope he feels better soon.

Well, it's been a week and his temprature still rises once a day (or so).  I don't understand what's going on.  He had diarrhea for a couple of days which is gone now but we can't seem to get rid of his fever.  Last time he had it was yesterday at 7 pm and it was 102.  :(  I hope it won't get high at night.   Sheri, no shots were given in the past month or so.  Beth, thanks, I hope he feels better soon too.  I'm not too thrilled about having to give him so much Tylenol.  I'm glad Cooper's feeling better now.  So they never found out what caused such high fever?

No Marianna they never did figure out what caused Cooper's fever. I had no signs that he was getting sick either other than the day the fever hit and he had the seizure he didn't eat much breakfast, he was acting fine, just didn't eat breakfast and I told his preschool teacher in case he wanted a big snack and well thank goodness I told her, b/c that let her be on the look out and she called me when he was acting funny and then the fever and not 10 minutes after we got home he had the seizure... Viruses sneak up on you so hopefully that is what it is..
