![]() Topic: Question about Prevacid OTC and solutabsPosted: 27 November 2009 at 2:32pm |
|
My 7 week old 11lb 10oz baby just was prescribed 7.5mg prevacid solutabs twice a day. My insurance doesn't cover it. They just give a discount. So it cost a whopping $175 which to me is crazy. Can't I just buy the Prevacid OTC and do my own compound with Bufferbabies? I would also like to do the marci kids dosing. There is a compounding pharmacy close but it wouldn't be as effective as doing the compound myself with bufferbabies right? Baby has an upper GI scheduled in a few weeks.
I know you are supposed to still give the zantac until the prevacid kicks in and they have to be 4 hours apart right? and the prevacid solutabs have to be given 30 minutes after or before meals? dissolving it was kind of a pain and it sais I could dissolve it in 4mls of water and give it to the baby with a syringe. Has anyone done that and does it seem easier? I have been emailing marcikids to order bufferbabies but no one has responded yet! I tried calling too. Any ideas on how to get the bufferbabies? TIA! marci-kids might be closed for the Holiday?
the number I have is (573) 884 0672 & his email is: phillipsjo@health.missouri.edu personally, I would ask dr phillips if you can use the OTC prevacid w/ the bufferbabies and just do that otherwise, you could use the solutabs- you can either 'just' hold it in the inner cheek lining of the baby until it dissolves and wash it down w/ some water, or you could take the solutab and just mix enough water to get it to a consistancy that you can get into baby- from paste consistancy to a liquid- but you don't *need* to use 4ml of water... the 'thing' about the solutabs is that you need to give on an empty stomach, followed by a 'meal' 30 minutes later as for prevacid prescription: You can contact 1-800-830-1015 for the TAP Prevacid Patient Assistance
Program. They GIVE prevacid (capsules only) away for free if you meet certain
guidelines. You can even have partial prescription drug coverage. and: http://www.needymeds.com/indices/brandname.shtml It has a listing of

thanks laura!
Also, one more question. I'm trying to figure out a good dosing schedule with the zantac while the prevacid kicks in. They are both twice a day. If I do the prevacid at 6am, then the zantac at noon, prevacid again at 5:00pm and zantac at 9:00, does that sound good? he doesn't eat consistently yet on a schedule.
