![]() Topic: Switching from Prevacid to Prilosec-Buffer BabiesPosted: 28 November 2009 at 8:43pm |
|
Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone has switched PPIs. Does anything special needs to be done like weaning from 1 to another, or do we just switch all at once? My dh has acid reflux and says that Prilosec is the only med that worked for him. Seeing as we're having problems with our little guy still eventhough he's on 30mg of Prevacid solutabs/day, we're pretty much willing to try anything, including starting with seeing if Prilosec would work in place of Prevacid.
Also, I'd probably just get the Prilosec OTC and try to do the buffer thing, but I wasn't able to find a spot on the marci-kids site to order the buffer babies. Can anyone help me with that and how to do the mixing?
If we don't go that route, we're also thinking of possiby just switching from solutabls to the new Prevacie OTC to see if that would work better. Do you still need to space them 30 mins before a feed? Would the dosing be the same?
Thanks!

Sorry I don't know much about buffer babies. But, we were doing prilosec suspension, then capsules and switched to prevacid capsules with caracream. Dr. P told us that we could just go right into it because it's another PPI. No weaning etc. But, for what it's worth, you might want to try prevacid capsules in bufferbabies. Prilosec OTC tastes so vile that you could throw up imo... it's the most terribly bitter taste ever (keep in mind we're in canada so things are different). Prevacid is much less bitter so tastes better. Since you're already on prevacid, you can just try adding capsules to the buffer babies and see if that helps.
Also, my understanding is that prevacid OTC are the same as prevacid capsules, so the same rules would apply. Good luck.

stockd@missouri.edu is the contact person for Buffer Babies. I emailed him the other night telling him that I wanted a form to fill out. (I guess this is necessary to get the kit) so I'm waiting back to hear also. I can't get
mine soon enough. Very detailed instructions come with the kit.
With the Prilosec OTC, my understanding is always give 30-60 min. before feed and DON'T crush the granules. Only crush when mixed w/ buffer babies.

You don't crush with buffer babies either (at least you don't with caracream). They just dissolve. |
