My son has only been taking in between 9-12 oz a day. He is 11 months old and weighs 17 pounds. The frustrating part is that his pediatricians and GI don't seem to be concerned , as he is still having a few wet diapers and tears. I understand that he isn't dehydrated, but obviously something is wrong!!!
History:
Twin birth at 33w6d. He was diagnosed with silent reflux at 6 weeks and put on pepcid. At 3 months, switched to prevacid and hospitalized for 4 days for dehydration. His pediatrician suggested we put him on erythromycin after that, for possible delayed gastric emptying. He was scoped while at the hospital and no signs of inflammation were found.
The erythromycin helped some, but really for just a week. Then, through the months, we would have the erythromycin dose increased. He would then do good for 5-7 days until he became tolerant of the dosage.
We tried nutramigen for many months and then put him on elecare. WE don't believe he has any allergies, but that the elecare might just go through his system faster, enabling him to eat more. From December-February, he ate well. 24-27 oz a day (this is the most he has ever eaten).
IN early March, the feeding difficulties started again. The doctor increased the prevacid (to 21 mg a day) and increased the erythromycin again. He started eating "ok" (18-22 oz a day) for about 2 weeks. Now he's back down to 9-12.
The frustrating part is that the doctors all say he's fine, because he has gained weight through the months. But feeding him is horrible. He cries, screams, arches, fights the bottle. He has never tried to hold his bottle (probably because of bottle aversion).. We've tried different bottles, cups, sippys, etc. Nothing works. He is willing to eat some solids, so we try to get as much liquid in him that way..but that isn't much.
Anyway, the GI doctor is convinced the problem is reflux and dge. However, I feel that if it is reflux, shouldn't the problem be getting better with time, not worse?
He has a twin sister who also has feeding difficulties. Life is really hard these days and sometimes I wonder if it's ever going to get easier on the 2 poor babies.

Thanks Laura. I will take a look.
One thought of the pediatrician is that he may have thrush, but it's not evident in his mouth. She thought there may be a chance he has it in his throat, especially since he's been on erythromycin for so many months. Has anyone heard of this?
