What have you found to be the best for gas? I tried dr browns with my first but wasn't impressed. I ave advent now but he is way to gassy and I'm ready to try something else but not sure what to try! I am thickening with rice cereal and want a not to fast nipple too...

I am curious as to why are you thickening? some swear by it and say it works, others say that it's an added stress to an already sensitive dygestive system...
thickening is usually to add extra calories if baby isn't gaining weight and, if that's the case, a nutritionist would work with you on how to properly fortify formula...the next reason would be because you're scared that baby is refluxing & it's getting into the lungs/aspiration. if this is your concern, then there is an acutal test for this called a Swallow Study and then after that they would tell you HOW to thicken, an exact consistancy, and you would use a thickener like Thick It or Simply Thick to get to the exact prescribed consistancy.
if you really think rice is what you need to do, then check the ingredients of the rice you are using- you could, if you also insist on thickening, try oatmeal or barley, again checking the ingredients to be sure there is nothing added like milk protein or soy or anything else...

Hellbent, I appreciate you taking the time to reply but it wasn't in response to my question. I am thickening bc of doctors orders, it helps weigh down for refluxing. I know all about barium swallows and endoscopies, my previous sons had plenty of testing and my one on still suffers with GERD and the other had dysphagia. I am also aware of allergies and simply thick as my previous son on was on that. I use beachnut which does not have milk or soy protien.

I was questioning your doctor's orders, that's all. but of course you are the mama and you know what is working!
as I said, thickening has worked wonders for some!
I'm sorry I don't know the answer to what type of bottle. many have praised browns and playtex (w/ the bags) - you could try a search, going back 6 months and OLDER...

I love the dr browns bottles. It helped a little but haven't used a bottle since my son was 8 weeks old and now is 5 months. He is on a G button. I plan to use dr browns once he can though!!

Thank you! I switched to Dr. Browns a few weeks ago and WOW, what a difference. I used them with my first son and didn't see any difference but totally did this time. I used the WIDE NECK bottles from Dr. Browns. I tried the original ones and he did not do well.

Born free bottles are really good too. A major plus is the parts are easier to clean. |
