Thank you so much! My poor baby has been suffering for 4 months now. Being a micropreemie she's been through a lot and now this. Strangely they never diagnosed her in a nicu and she hasn't had any episodes there. This all began when she came home. I hate acid reflux. I can't see her suffering any longer and not being happy and developing like other babies do. I hope zegerid at the right dose will do the trick and my baby will be happy. She is my third and my first encounter with acid reflux. She is also on erythromycin which def works for her motility because she doesn't vomit whole feed 2 hrs later. But she is still in pain from burning and refusing the bottle. Hope we can avoid the Gtube and nissen in a near future. Sorry, just needed to vent. You guys are great and I learned a lot from the forums here. Thanks for your help. Day three on new med., so far no results or I would say she is doing more of coughing and swallowing :( but I stay positive. When she started on solutab I was told two weeks to see the result. We never did maybe a little relief but not a different baby who started eating. Is it this long when you switch to different PPI too? Anybody who has experience please share. Thank you

from one form of PPI to another, it won't take longer than a day or two..three days, max? so have you adjusted meds to current weight?
you can also give zantac if you have some- give hrs seperate from the PPI...

Hi Sophiasmom, We switched from the Prevacid Solutab 15mgs , like you, to the Zegerid/Omep OTC. So far so good. My LO is 19 lbs. Same dose, 3x/day. (we put hers in 3 oz of formula) and Mylicon drops for gas. Good luck.

Thanks! So far her reflux is the worst it's ever been. I actually got the script from her GI for zegerid packets and mixing it with mylanta and water. Day 5 and so far no improvement, but I read one of the posts saying that it may get worse between 3rd and 8th day. So I'm hoping next week we'll see improvement. Good luck to you too. Thank you all for the replies.

Okay I can't figure out how to quote the op, so I just c/p the part I have a question about:

I posted to ask if this means 13mL of mcs & 6mL of water (I think that's what he meant?)
basically you use enough calcium carbonate in whatever form (mcs, tums, cc powder [NOW brand]) to equal 1,000-1,500 mgs of calcium carbonate and add enough water to make it 19mLs. This makes a concentration of 2 mg/ml and 3.5mL is the minimum volume to give each dose. whew!

SO: what I gather and, this is just ME here...
please chime in w/ thoughts/ideas!!

The cvs version of mcs has, Per Teaspoon (5mL): Calcium Carbonate 400 mg
so: 13mLs of cvs brand mcs has approx ~ 1,000mgs of calcium carbonate

so you find the equivalent amount of calcium carbonate and add enough water to make it 19mLs...

· ¼ tsp. of CC powder = ~750mg of calcium carbonate

· 1 extra strength TUMS or 1 TUMS QuikPac = 1000mg of calcium carbonate

· 1 TUMS Kids Smoothies (contains wheat & dairy) = 750mg of calcium carbonate but often have a better flavor for LOs. [not even sure these are still on the market?]

So, question is, I bought the Now brand from the link provided and it has serving size 1 tsp, and amount of cc per serving is 1,200mg (and if you go to the link it provides this info).  How do you get 1/4tsp= 750mg of cc?  Trying to figure out how much cc powder to add to get a 2mg/ml mixture... I am assuming I keep the h2o to 19ml?  I am using OTC 20mg zeg caps + OTC 20mg omep.  Thank you so much!!!

if you've figured out that 1tsp of the NOW brand cc powder is 1200 mg of calcium carbonate, then use 1 tsp of the NOW brand cc powder and enough water to make 19mls of liquid

Hi all,

We're trying to stretch out our last batch of ccmax/prilosec and transition our lo to the zegerid/omep/cc concoction. Honestly, I'm worried because her sx seem to be coming back after just a few days subsituting one dose a day with the zegerid mix :( She did also have a cold and is teething, so it may not just be the med change but I guess time will tell...Anyhow, my question for those who are using the OTC zegerid mix may be stupid but I'm wondering (aside from the measures/ingredients), how are you mixing it all up? E.g. What are you putting it in? How weill is it dissolving (i put mine in a small sterile container, just one ~19/20ml batch and there was a lot of powder that stuck to the bottom, so I worry about precision of dosing/is she even getting the medicine? Also, if it does ultimately work (which we are SO hopeful it does), could we make a week's worth at a time? I saw someone say something about drawing it all up and mixing in a large syringe...How do you suck up the dry stuff first into the syring? How are you able to get everything in without air entering syringe so you know you have correct liquid measures? I thought we'd be able to figure some of this out ourselves through trial w the luxury of the ccmax, which has worked so well for her, but now I'm starting to panic as she isn't doing all that well. I' hope it's just a matter of getting the mixing better...Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

Hi Genalynne, What we do: I use an old medicine bottle (had liquid medicine in it holds 40mLs). I use cuticle scissors to snip open the 2 capsules and dump them into the clean, dry bottle. Then add the CC powder and add water up to the 20ml mark on the bottle. Then shake. No problems dissolving. To administer we use a oral syringe and just draw up the 3.5mL. That's it. No problems. My container an actually hold 40mLs or 4 days worth so that helps. Also, the CC powder DOES stick to the bottom of the bottle, so I always shake REALLY well before drawing it up in the syringe. (My bottle is clear, that's how I see the powder stuck to the bottom). As long as you shake really well, should be no problem the mixture is evenly distributed..

Thank you! Yes, I thought the powder on the bottom was probably the CC, kind of a slurry. I probably need to put in something I can shake more AND see if the powders are settling. One last question- do you use distilled water? Bottled water? Tap? I've been using bottled water but thought maybe I should get distilled...?
