Yes sad but true... we often cause another problem when we treat one. :( So many babies suffer from constipation. It's SO sad! My children tended to have diarrhea more than constipation though and I always thought that is was a side effect of the Prevacid.
When we got pregnant with our second child I cried away to my husband and said "I'm so scared I won't be able to handle another screaming baby". But we decided that if indeed our second one suffered from digestive problems then at least we would know more. My second child started showing symptoms at 5 days old. :( I remember reading somewhere that instead of begging God to "just please make my child stop crying" I needed to pray "Lord help me to be calm and know what to do." I found that I got further with the second prayer. :) But I cringed at the thought of having a third child. I really didn't want to stop at 2 and was considering adoption but I was sure God would give me a baby with digestive problems because "I would know what to do". When Shan (owner of Core Health) told me that by taking the Digestive Health, the Core Health Packs (daily vitamins and minerals) and drinking Kangen water while pregnant and nursing it would help me to have a baby with a healthy digestive system, there was NO way I could believe that. But after I saw how they helped my boys I became willing to have another baby. I will be honest and tell you that she is a normal baby. She is not perfect. She has had a few times where it seemed she was having reflux and I think it was mostly due to teething. But she is 99.9% better than the boys were. I will also be honest about my boys. Every once in awhile Quinton will complain that his burps hurt of even tell me that there is stuff coming up in his throat. But he consistently sleeps through the night unless he has a bad dream. Jackson will still get restless at night sometimes and come to our bed. I find that with both boys, the more alkaline water they drink, the better they are. I think that the reason they have been having a few more troubles this summer is that they aren't drinking enough. :( I find that a "drink water chart" really helps. I need to get one of those printed off and hanging on my fridge. I don't blame your baby for not drinking nutramigen or alimentum. :( I'm glad you're still trying the Digestive Health pills and wish SO badly they would help you and your children. Here is a link to a post a mom just put on this site saying that the Digestive Health pills are helping her little one. She is nursing/pumping? and has been taking 2 pills with every meal and 1 with snacks. I'm not sure whether or not she's giving any to baby.

Ok... so I've been on a search to find out WHY probiotics and/or enzymes could make symptoms worsen. Here is some really interesting info I found on this site from several years ago....
"Both of my girls seemed to do worse when on probiotics. I was taking them for a while too so they would be passed on to McKenzie and I noticed they made me so bloated and gave me bad gas. Once I stopped them I was fine and McKenzie was actually better. It is funny...they made some things better and others worse." Reply..."Probiotics are funny that way. When you (or your lo) first start taking them, it seems like they are making you worse. What is happening is that the probiotic is killing off all of the icky yeast. I'm not sure of all the symptoms but I know one symptom is irritability. It kind of has to get worse for a little bit before it gets better. Hang in there! Here is some more info: (scroll down to the "What About Die-Off" topic) http://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11114&KW=enzymes+probiotics+die-off&PN=2 |

Well, I think we're going to have to finally make the switch to Nutramigen. Its a last resort. Baby went 10 days without pooing this time, and it took some intervention to even get the couple of dime sized poos we got out of her..sorry about TMI. Its gone from every 3 days, to 5, to 7, now 10 days btwn bowel movements. Nothing is helping any more, and she seems so uncomfortable and grumpy. I'm hoping the new formula will do the trick.

I am so sorry things are still so rough for you and your little one! Have you used glycerin suppositories? Another thing that I find that can help is "Fletcher's laxative for kids". Although it's for kids I've used it for my babies too.

The pharmacist wouldn't give us any suppositories until we had spoken to the doctor. It takes forever to get an appointment, so we might have to take her to the clinic tomorrow.

Tired Mommy....I am wondering how your little one is doing?
Do you remember earlier that I posted a story from a different mom, named Lorraine? Well, although the Digestive Health pills helped her little girl Mandy a lot she wanted to try giving her the alkaline water with it to see if that would help even more. The mom that Lorraine had originally written her story for emailed me today wondering if the water had helped Mandy yet. So I asked Lorraine to email her. She did and then forwarded her email to me. I thought that you and the others that have posted on here would find it of interest. Here it is... Hi from Texas finally! iv sure been wondering how u are doing with the enzyme blend. Give me an update when u can. Martha texted me this morn and said you were wondering what the alkaline water was doing for Mandy. Like i mentioned to you, the pills have obviously helped but not a total fix. She is on 3 a day. They have been a miracle to get her little gut repaired from antibiotics and thrush and yeast. But still having fits with food. Like projectile puke, especially after eating a meal and then taking a bottle for a nap or bedtime…and then throwing up right after drinking it all her food that she ate hours befor not digested. sounds gross sorry! But wanted to explain how didnt seem to tolerate food. Then after that woud keep a bottle down of Alimentum. Grrrr cuz it costs very much! Like what will finally FIX her that she can EAT normal! U know the feeling. My husband refused to ever put her to bed cuz he just ended up getn puked on! Frusterating cuz the severe acid reflux symptoms gone, and skin rashes gone but ended up with touchy stomach, so after an episode woud pour maalox and Rinitidine down her throat and she acted better. Anyway got hubby finally convinced to try water machine. And i had to eat humble pie myself cuz thru the years iv known friends that claimed this water was a miracle for healing what ailed you, and a preventive for disease. Ok, so we were pretty skeptical. And let me tell u, i still have not read the information that was sent with it, or totally understand how it hydrates your cells, i just decided to wing it and use it without being persuaded by all the books and DVD’s and great success stories that are out there. And this is what has happened to Mandy, without me knowing what SHOULD happen when you correctly take the water. She started sleeping ALL nite EVERY nite since the water, waking about 600 or so for a bottle. she used to cry out a bit, or wake a few times and sip a couple ounces or occasionally refuse bottle with a sick look on her face. Now at 600 she drinks like 5-6 oz.,then naps an hour or two more. Also has not puked ONE time since machine. Even when she should!! Like iv been trying her back on reg cheese, and yogurt. which used to make her puke at nite. One thing it hasnt increased her appetite or make her want food or drink more, she hates to drink anything but her few bottles. She still will only drink when convinced a few swallows, never picks up a sippy cup on her own. Im not sure why, but it is obvious to us now that its not because sshe doesnt feel good. maybe stubborn?! maybe just taking a while to retrain brain its ok? She will eat or drink her little bit and be happy and KEEP IT DOWN! So thats been going on now for almost 2 weeks weve had the borrowed machine. Where to from here?! im wishing it wasnt so very expensive, me and my husband grappling with this, but it is helping her overall health. And one of these days i want to know WHY and read up on it completely. I do understand the basic theory, and i have a feeling once we dive into the benifits of alkaline water we will be sold on buying one! And here i am, a believer in oxygenated alkaline water! How have things been going for you? Have the enzyme pills helped your little tyke? Im definitely not taking Mandy off of them. Her pediatrician has diagnosed her with a weak or sensitive immune system so the extra boost of probiotics and stomach enzymes are essential. So hopefully you can make sense of my late-night ramblings here and if you have any questions let me know. Good luck to you and your family! |
