    Posted: 08 July 2012 at 10:49pm
Hi there, I'm wondering if I need to try TED or not. My dd is 2 mo old and for the last 2-3 weeks, her poop has been almost exclusively green and mucousy. We might get one good yellow bf poop every other day. Other symptoms are frequent grunting, back arching, and red face when pooping, and she spits up a few times after each feeding. Spit up is sometimes curdly, and sometimes just liquid breast milk consistency. Sometimes (not every time) she will get very fussy right before spitting up, as if in some pain. She is not overly colicky but will not sleep during the day unless held.

Does this sound like a candidate for TED? I'm not sure what to try to get the poop back on track and to try and eliminate the (what sppears to be) painful pooping.
Thanks!!

Oh and her gas is not at all stinky, but her poop has developed a smell that is not as sweet as the good ole yellow breastfeeding poop.

hi & welcome!

me, I would try it. well, I DID try it, lol!
it's just two weeks and, you may very well learn of things that you eat that may or may not affect her. For example, when I did the diet, I was desperate! I really didn't think it was something in my diet, but, like I said, I was desperate!

In the end, I was right that my baby wasn't reacting to any 'typical' proteins that babies react to (milk, soy, corn, wheat- the 'top' are milk and soy, thus mspi = milk/soy protein intolerance). He did, however, react when I ate: tomatoes/tomato products, citrus, eggplant & tuna...

next: how is your let down? green stools can be from foremilk/hindmilk imbalance- check out the breastfeeding reflux forum and
OAL (overactive letdown):

another thing to investigate is YOU trying probiotics and digestive enzymes and also giving some to your baby...
I know this is a lot to 'digest!' So, you might want to start w/ the probiotics/enzymes and then only if you don't see results go on the TED...

decisions decisions !

Thanks! Looks like I have a lot to read up on. ;) I do have a strong let down, and have done research on that and made some BF modifications to rule out foremilk/hindmilk imbalance. She seems to be gaining just fine, so I'm not too concerned that the problem is there. We had a good yellow poop today, but it smelled like actual diarreah and had some dark specs in it that looked like it could've been blood.

I'll look into the probiotics first. How long should I give those to work before moving on to TED, should I go that route?

everything (every change) takes about two weeks to see it's full effect...

I decided to pull the trigger on TED and started last Monday. I figured it couldn't hurt, right? We go to the ped today so we'll chat with him about it too. Anyways, after just 24 hours, she had a very dark, almost black, poop. I think that was a good sign maybe of her system cleaning out? Since then, we've had a few yellow poops, but stil green for the most part, and the mucus seems to be lessening. I will admit that I've eaten a few more things than what's on the list, such as green grapes, oatmeal, and I just started avocado because I was so hungry and dropped below my prebaby weight, and got concerned about supply. So, I'll keep you posted, but being patient until I hit that 2 week mark!!

Any advice on what to start adding back in after the 2 weeks? I'm dying for more fruits and veggies in my diet, can I pretty much go carte blanche on those except for maybe tomatoes and berries?? Also, what about chicken? Can that be a first meat to reintroduce? Thx!!

I haven't been on this site for awhile because my dad passed away a couple of weeks ago. So now I am updating myself with all the new posts on this site. You talked about using probiotics. I would definatile recommend trying them. My children used to suffer greatly from MSPI and acid reflux. But after they started taking a probioitc/enzyme supplement they improved almost 100%!!!! You can read my blog where I have written out my story of what we tried and went through with all our children and what we found to help them. My Journey in Finding Answers to my Children's Reflux

I hope your little one is continuing to improve!

Hi Martha, i'm so sorry for your loss. thanks so much for posting your blog. It was very insightful for me, and wow, you went through quite the ordeal with your boys!! I have just one question regarding the enzymes/probiotics... Is it enough for me to take them while breastfeeding or do I need to supplement with a bottle to give them directly to the baby? Thanks again for sharing your story. My doctor just keeps saying that the green mucousy poops are just fine!! I know my baby and I know that something is bothering her.
