the boys have been off prevacid for a few days. i posted that i wasn't quite sure if their crankiness was teething or reflux related but i am happy to say that it appears to be teething.  3 days in a row the boys have slept through the night. usually when their reflux flares up they are up all night so i am taking this as a good sign.

now about julianna. i took her off prevacid b/c she was having explosive bm's. but 2 days off the prevacid and all her reflux symptoms came back. she started complaining about her belly again and would come to me and say, "mommy i just throwed up in my mouth and swallowed it." YUK!!! she also was up in the night again and refusing to eat. so i called the ped and we started her on zantac. it never really worked for the boys but appears to work for her. i have been giving her zantac and mylanta and she is back to eating and sleeping.

but as far as the dairy free. it is getting hard. mostly this week i hung around home b/c i didn't want to be in a situation where she would see and want stuff like ice-cream ect. yesterday she cried and begged me for mac and cheese. it broke my heart. in a way it is easier for the boys b/c they never had it. she knows what she is missing.

and my dh is being impossible. he is having a full and total meltdown b/c i don't think (and i gave away all the dairy foods) that we should sit down and eat dairy in front of her for a while at least while she adjusts. i am so frustrated i want to scream.

julianna starts pre-school on wednesday. they have a snack time and i already spoke with the director about her new allergy but i am still nervous about snack time or when kids bring in stuff for their birthdays. if i know in advance i can make something that resembles what the other kids have.

Laurie ~ I'm just tossing around some ideas here...you mentioned that Julianna was off of Prevacid for a few days and her reflux came right back - was all of this occuring while she was off of dairy? My thinking is that maybe the reflux doesn't have anything to do with the mild milk allergy? Has anything else changed now that she's been off of dairy? If it really is mild does this mean that she can consume NO dairy whatsoever?

i'm confused about her allergy too. we see the allergist on the 22nd and hopefully he will be able to answer my questions.

since being off dairy she has started sleeping much better. she had begun to wake 4-5 times a night and would not go back to sleep immediately or on her own. either she would come into my room or i'd end up falling asleep in her room with her. now she is going to sleep on her own, in her own room and staying asleep through the night.

who knows. i always feel like i am in a holding pattern with the kids- waiting for the next doctor visit!

i glad to hear that hailey is doing well off the prevacid!!  it's such major progress!!! isn't it so nice to not have to think about prevacid?

Laurie ~ I hope you get some answers on the 22nd. Keep us posted. That's certainly something if she's sleeping better. Hopefully, your dh will learn to understand why you want to do this. Why is it always the men who have such a hard time with all of this? My husband is the same way!!! Yes, it's great not having to worry about the Prevacid. Hailey was terrible today and tonight though. The first thing that comes to mind is if she's in pain from reflux. I wish I could stop thinking that way!!! I really think she's teething though. I gave her some tylenol before bed tonight. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Laurie-Great news about the boys being off prevacid! It has to be tough for Julianna. My step daughter was 8 when we discovered she has a milk allergy so I know where you are coming from. My husband and I still wait till she goes to bed if we are going to have ice cream and she's 15now. Hopefully you dh will begin to understand what she's going through.  What about "soymage" I've heard it's dairy-free. I have a mock mac and cheese recipe that is gf/cf if you would like. Good to hear that the zantac seems to be working for her.

lynn- i would love the mac and cheese recipe. thank you!

i found a product called "chreese" that we had last week and she loved. but again today she was asking me for "regular" mac and cheese.

she starts pre-school on wednesday and i tried to explain to her today that i would be packing her a special snack and that she might not have the same thing as everyone else at school (the school provides the snack) she said to me, "that's ok mommy- i'll share my snack." it made me get tears in my eyes!

Lynn: I would love the recipe, too. We need a recipe forum for us to share our ideas about reflux/MSPI related foods!
