    Posted: 13 November 2005 at 1:02pm

Does anyone have any advise on how to get a baby to sleep in the crib instead of the car seat?  Riley likes to be tight, because she moves so much.  The Dr told us that she needs to sleep in her crib and not the car seat bacause we will never get her out of it.  She wakes up immedietly when I put her in there.  She needs her sleep so I do what ever I can do to achieve this.  Atleast the car seat is in the crib.  Did anyone else go thru this?  I have the mattress raised for her Reflux but it doesn't help.  She seems to spit up anyways.

Yes. CHarlie slept in his car seat for a long time-I mean long time (almost 8 months!!) It really helped with his reflux and nasal congestion. We had to stop it because he was learning to "crawl" out of it. Because of that, we HAD to stop him from sleeping in it and just put him in his crib-on his belly- and it took a couple of nights to get used to it. (he always naps on his belly). Now, the car seat is a thing of the past,Thankfully.

We also swaddled, like Laura suggested and actually started the car seat thing, after we stopped swaddling, at about 4 months. That worked pretty good, but it got to the point, where he would "break out of it", we would call it and wake up crying.

How old is Riley?

Riley is alittle over two months.  She moves so much the swaddle thing would not work.

How about using a wedge that is on both sides - maybe it will give her a feeling of comfort? It will be impossible to replace the "feeling" of a car seat where she's all scrunched up. You might just want to get on with it and let her get used to sleeping in the crib. It will be a lot harder to break this habit later.

You might want to try tummy sleeping?

This is from the American Academy of Pediatrics & how they recommend that tummy sleeping is best for GERD babies. http://www.aap.org/new/sids/question.htm (thanks Sherry & Christine!)

There's a monitor that you can use called the Angel Care Monitor that many of the parents on this board have had great success with.  Jonah was sent home with a monitor from the hospital, so I don't know firsthand about the Angel Care monitor, but here's all about it: http://www.infantreflux.org/forum/search.asp?KW=angelcare&am p;SM=2&SI=TC&FM=0&OB=2

BEANIE BABY: for day time naps I suggest this: Try putting her on her tummy & put a beanie baby on her back for 2 reasons- to see that she's breathing (the beanie baby will go up & down )

& for the weight- put your hand on her back & then slowly leave it & the beanie baby is there instead...

For sleeping, there's also the Tucker Sling that people rave about: http://www.infantreflux.org/forum/search.asp?KW=tucker&S M=1&SI=TC&FM=0&OB=2

as well as the Amby Hammock: http://www.infantreflux.org/forum/search.asp?KW=amby&SM= 1&SI=TC&FM=0&OB=2

i would like to chime in here in favor of tummy sleeping...it has worked miracles for robbie! or maybe it's us that have benefited from the miracles.  a little sleep goes a long way. also, have you ordered a miracle blanket www.miracleblanket.com. it looks like a straitjacket, but it really works. robbie is 4 months now and still can't worm out of it for several hours and he hasn't stopped moving since conception! the angel care monitor laura mentioned is also great. we love ours! side wedges also help, but we stopped using them a long time ago since robbie would just scoot out of them to the bottom of the crib. i hope you find some answers soon!

good luck,

sarah
