and they agreed that we need to go ahead and have Isaac evaluated again to see if the feeding issues may be motor skill issues or something else.  So our appointment is next tuesday!

Ditto Heather. Both girls are in the program, I wished Alexis qualified when she was younger, it would help us avoid food aversions that we are currently working on now at age 2 1/2 years old! Our dietician is from Early Interventions as well, she has been our lifesaver, introducing us to the RCF formula!

Sarah

I PMed you Heather's email... let me know if you got it please! She is excited to talk to you.

For EI, are tehy doing a full evaluation? Some states do this by default - in others you have to ask for it... just letting you know because i would ask for a full eval - that way you get an OT eval, a PT eval and a Speech eval. They told me at teh beginning that the OT eval that we did for Matthew would look into fine motor, sensory + oral motor issues.... well we later did an eval for speech and found out that the speech did a feeding eval as well and a lot more pessimistic than the OT... so the more evals, the better prob??

That's great Sarah!  I'm so glad that they are getting the eval done so quickly.  I think we may be going back to EI and begging for another eval for Hailey.  Her feeding is just unacceptable.

Lori,

We had Alexis evaluated by EI for feeding when she was 13 months old and they placed her at a less than 30% delay which was completely wrong! She just decided to eat very well that day the lady was here. We had her re-evaluated at 2 years due to delayed speech and she qualified, we think her delayed speech not only has to due with her ears and tubes but since she had such feeding problems, she never learned how to properly chew and move textured foods around in her mouth so she doesn't move her tongue the way she should for speech. The therapist is now working on feeding skills with her too, chewing, so far it has been a big improvement. Get another evaluation soon since Alexis is almost 3 years old she is on her way out of the program, so the speech therapist is trying to get as much in as possible. She is concentrating more on her feeding, textures, and chewing than speech right since she will go to pre school soon which will help with her speech.

Sue

For what it is worth, we are in a similar place with Matthew in terms of speech and feeding. No skills, no real tongue movement (probably more delayed than Aexis, but same concept)... We got similar explanations for his speech delay... all oral motor based. new thing is we are also getting tubes in a couple of weeks. We went to ENT today and Matthew still has a lot of fluid... his hearing is perfect but the ENT said that he has too much fluid and too much mucous (our ped in Spain said that this could be an issue a while back)... so he said tubes.

Lori - i would def have Hailey evaluated again... maybe she has the same skills she did when she was discharged adn therefore has not gained much in the last few months?

Thais-Thank you very much! I did get the pm and I getting ready to email her.  We chose to exclude the speech part of the evaluation b/c Isaac speaks very well-he puts phrases and sentences together so we are not at all concerned about that but we are getting the rest of the evaluations done.

Lori- I really wish someone would just help you!  It is just so frustrating to hear that they just won't help.
