I am trying to figure out what the proper dose of prilosec is for my 3 mo old. He is 12.3 lbs. Currently taking 2.5 ml 2xday of compounded prilosec 2mg/ml.
Marco calculator only has previcid? And I don't understand how to convert the dosing chart...

first of all I think you need to convert your baby's weight from pounds to kilos? http://www.sfca.co.uk/match/kilolbs.htm - http://www.sfca.co.uk/match/kilolbs.htm
I haven't looked at marci-kids for a while but I thought there was both prevacid and prilosec dosing? either way, you can figure out prevcaid dosing, it's almost the same...
next: read through Prevacid 101 (also has info about prilosec) to read about HOW compounds NEED to be made. unfortunately I would bet that yours is not made correctly...last post on the page: http://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1936&PN=0&TPN=1 - http://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1936&PN=0&TPN=1

They removed the prilosec from the dosing calculator and put in zegerid instead.

1.25 mg/kg 3 x per day
Your son is approx 5.6kg, which gives a dose of approx 7mg 3 x per day (or 21 mg a day). He's currently getting 10mg per day (or 5mg twice daily)

Thanks to all. Had another bad night on the Prilosec, not sure if I should give it another day with the 3 smaller doses or just try the previcid solutabds dosed acc. to marci-kids.
I did hear back from Dr. P and he said the to use the OTC Prevacid and BufferBabies. Waiting to hear back from David Stock to order the BB kits.
In the meantime, how far apart do I space the prilosec for 3 doses and should I use Zantac as well?

Forgive me, but the whole mg/ml dosage conversion confused me.
The prilsec he is on is 2mg/1ml and he gets 2.5ml 2xday.
You said it would be 1.25 mg/kg per day- how many ML is that? Or just tell me how to do the conversion and I can figure it out.
Thanks for all yuor help!

I TRIED to speak to the pharmacist about the way it was compounded and asked him about the stability, percentage of buffer, etc. He wasn't really that interested in discussing it. And from what I have read here, I was kind of prepared for that reaction!
Hopefully it won't be an issue if the solutabs or the OTC & BB works out!

ok if he needs 21 mgs a day and his current medicine bottle tells you that he gets 2mgs of medicine for every 1 ml of liquid then you need to figure out how many mls it will take to get 21 mgs
1ml is 2mgs of medicine & 2mls is 4mgs 3mls is 6mgs and so on
yes use the zantac, too, making sure to space it 4hrs from the prilosec I say this bcse if the prilosec isn't stable then it might not even be effective, so give prilosec first thing in am zantac 4hrs later then prilosec in the evening and zantac at night something like that
