Hi all, Firstly can i introduce myself as a mother of two children (one of whom is 11 months and has severe silent reflux) who have both suffered terribly with silent reflux.
Following a prolonged process to try to get a diagnosis and failure by doctors, health visitors, Hospitals and other medical professionals to diagnose the real cause of my babies distress, I decided to set up an awareness campaign.
I have set up an e-petition detailed below and a facebook page http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/188944681171536/ - http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/188944681171536/
The basis of the e-petition which is split into 4 areas, that i felt from my experience and talking to others were key to ensuring that the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of reflux was expanded
The petition is there to identifiy where they system is currently failing and to enhance what they are currently doing right!! I think it is safe to say that this is not going to dramatically completely change the health services view or current practice with regard to reflux but will identify the gaps, first of all we have to get 100,000 signatures, which i believe we will eventually, but its going to take a matter of time.
Its split into 4 parts, although on the HM Government website, its all one paragraph, so i hard to see.
The basis of this e-petition is to request that:
* Ensure that all health professionals responsible and in contact with children, have a basic awareness of baby reflux, the different types, the warning signs and the treatment that may be required.
* More awareness is raised to expectant and new mothers on baby reflux, the signs, the symptoms and the action required
* Local GP's are able to review and diagnose as early as possible when a child is suffering reflux, in particular where this may be silent reflux, where the child may show no sign of vomiting, but has increased pain, reduced milk intake, failure to thrive, reduced weight gain.
* Ensure that health visitors and professionals, carefully review and consider the advice provided to new moms on the lack of ability for their baby to gain weight and to be alerted on baby's that significantly reduce their milk intake on a regular pattern alongside signs of distress.
Happy reading, if you agree with the basis whether fully or partly but overall the context, please support!
