Hi...I have a 6 month old son who has acid reflux. he has been taking Prevacid for 5 months now and has not improved. Is even taking the very expensive infant formula and is still the same. He can't sleep always crying out in pain. I take him to a G.I. doctor and has been very little improvement. I don't know what to do anymore. Any suggestions. I hate seeing my baby in pain day in and day out. It's worse when he tries to sleep. I think that's why he tries his hardest to stay awake or take very short naps.

well, it also depends on how much prevacid and what dose of prevacid...
PLEASE read Prevacid 101Smile

Prevacid 101:

scroll to the last page of this post, (it's actually also about other PPIs like prilosec, too)

Christine is right, too. If they do a scope (endoscopy), they take a look at his esophogus and see it badly irritatated and/or if they find the presence or EOS cells (this would indicate there's a reaction to something in his diet- the most likely culprots being milk and or soy proteins) or even thrush...

in the meantime, arm yourself w/ research and learn all you can so that you can be the best advocate for your baby!

his prevacid is twice a day 15 mg each. I talked to his G.I. doctor today and he said yes there's the test but its not going to change anything that we're doing rt now at this point. He thinks he's doing a lot better. Which yes I guess he is compared to how he was. The doctor also claims that the arching of the back is normal. Though I will read up on the Prevacid 101 thank you

its the solutab....

solutab needs to be given on an empty stomach, followed by a 'meal' 30 minutes later. it needs to be spaced 4 hrs from zantac.

what formula? if it's alumentim or nutrimigen, it might be time for neocate or elecare.
if baby's eating neocate or elecare and taking solutabs correctly then I would say it's time for a scope?

My son did better on 10 mgs / three times per day. I did this by dividing the two 15 mg solutabs into three equal pieces. And I always gave it on an empty stomach and fed him 30 minutes later.

I was never told to give it to him on an empty stomach. I've been giving it to him with the food. He's on EleCare now. I've been letting it dissolved in the food.

well. unfortunatley there's a lot they don't know to tell youl. it's been shown via research through the University of Missouri that it needs to be given on an empty stomach followed by a meal 30 minutes later. search through the medicine forum, there are actual medical journal articles, etc.

it's worth a try, the timing I mean...

well, if he seems to get better giving on an empty stomach then you'll know it's working Smile
