I bought a car seat out of necessity over the weekend (Sarah is officially too big for the carrier). Because I knew I HAD to get one…I ended up getting a seat I’m not happy with. The crotch buckle is too short for her fat little legs! I pinched her yesterday…not fun…and had a difficult time getting her in it this morning. She also hollered several times on the way to daycare and was tugging at the straps around her legs. I know a 5 point harness is supposed to go around the legs but does anyone have a seat where this isn’t a problem??? I need some major help here!
Shopping is over an hour away for me so returning it will be a problem, but I’m willing to order online if there is a better seat. I will try to do some more research today but wanted to hear about the seats you all use and the “roominess” of the crotch buckle! She is not comfortable!

April 10, 2007 at 10:30 am #29985AnonymousInactiveWhat did you buy? Usually this can be adjusted by a simple mechanism under the seat. You should look at your manual. I know that this had to be adjusted on both the kids seats when we bought them. I haven’t had this problem since.
April 10, 2007 at 12:46 pm #29995AnonymousInactiveOurs also can be adjusted at the crotch. I love the one Abby has. It is a Britax Roundabout. It is slightly smaller then the next model up but I need something that my oldest dd could squeeze b/w it and the passenger seat when it was rear facing. It was a bit pricey but I am so happy with it. It is so easy adjust the straps (one of my biggest complaints w/all of the other ones that we have had)! Here is a link to the one we have http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2535308&a mp;cp=2255983.2256187&cp=2255983&fbn=Brand+Name+Seco ndary%7CBritax&f=PAD%2FBrand+Name+Secondary%2FBritax& ;fbc=1&categoryId=2256187&parentPage=search

April 10, 2007 at 1:21 pm #29998AnonymousInactiveI would reccommend a bigger seat like the Britax seats. Some seats like the Wizard are made to accommodate a child up to 50 or 60 lbs, so they are big and roomy. I don’t think they are making the Wizard anymore but the Boulevard is very similar; maybe it’s the new improved Wizard. These seats are pricey but you can use them for a very long time since you won’t have to switch to a booster at 40 lbs like you do with most convertible carseats.
Good luck! I hope you fnd something you like.
April 10, 2007 at 3:58 pm #30023AnonymousInactiveWe have the Britax Wizard for Kaelyn, but we couldn’t afford another Britax for Alex since we needed to buy 3 (one for me, dh, and his mom). So, we went with the Fisher Price safe voyage which is made by Britax, but is cheaper. We’ve been pretty happy with it so far. We ordered it online at Albee baby.
April 10, 2007 at 7:04 pm #30033AnonymousInactiveWe have had the same problem with our car seats, and what we did was adjust the shoulder straps so the part that goes over the legs comes over further to reach the buckle, but still remains snug over the shoulders, if that makes sense.
April 11, 2007 at 9:09 am #30057AnonymousInactiveThanks! The length of the crotch strap can’t be adjusted but I did realize there were 3 slots it could be thread through. I moved it to the farthest slot and that seemed to help take some of the pressure away from her legs/buckle. I got one of the Alpha Omega seats which I can’t believe I purchased b/c after ALL of the research I did…it rarely got good reviews. I was just sooooo limited in my choices and I HAD to come home with something! I’m still debating on returning it. We’ll see how she likes it over the next few days…I appreciate your help ladies!
April 11, 2007 at 10:07 am #30060AnonymousInactiveif you can return it … i got the evenflo triumph one.. i cant remember which kind.. there are two.. NOT the kind that looks like a round seat…. those are supposed to be a pain to adjust the seat..plus its more expensive. mine was only like 100 bucks.. so if you are looking for something cheaper than the britax.. i really like this one!
April 11, 2007 at 10:15 am #30061AnonymousInactiveLauren – How is the crotch strap on that one? Does it adjust? Also, does it recline? I didn’t think that would be a valuable feature, but I DO like that about the seat I have.
April 11, 2007 at 12:40 pm #30073AnonymousInactiveWe have the alpha omega kind- Eddie Bauer. We adjust the strap in the same way that you describe and it hasn’t been a problem.
Heather- I LOVE Bryce’s new pic! He looks like such a little man!
April 11, 2007 at 4:26 pm #30107AnonymousInactiveyep it reclines.. and the crotch strap is more on his thighs i guess.. well its where an underwear line would be… but it doesnt seem to bother him at all.. and his thighs are the ONLY part on his body that is chubby;)
i just adjust the straps by pulling on the excess strap at the bottom while pushing the button.. i am not sure if there is a seperate crotch strap adjuster.. sorry, i’ll look next time!
