Chloe’ is 3 months today and on an average takes 15-17oz at a time and this is with the feedings at night time. At this time is never takes more 3 oz at at time every 3 hours and if she does she will spit it up. There are times that she fights the bottle but other times she eats and will drift off to sleep, so I guess that she is statisfied, but within a few minutes will fuss a little. I was just wondering if other moms with babies that only eat 2-3 oz at a time, if they think, or if this sounds like that this is just what she can handle at this time or if she has developed a food adversion. We have taken her to the doctor for the past few weeks and she has steadily gained weight, although they mention that she is still on the skinny side. She is such a small baby anyway and people always ask if she was a premie. Behavior wise, she is alert and happy.

My Taylor is 9 months and she to this day only does 3oz of formula at a time. She has DGE (delayed gastric emptying) where that is all her stomach can handle at a time since it is very slow to empty. When we had her on Reglan to help speed up motility it really did help. But there is a lot of controvesy with Reglan due to possible side effects.

Myles thrived on 15 -18 ounces a day (usually closer to 15) for a very long time. He too had DGE which I think is what caused him to have such a minimal appetite. I think babies with DGE absorb more nutrients from their food because it sits in the stomach so long.

In any case, if her growth rate is normal than I wouldn’t be concerned, especially if she’s happy. Myles was on the thin side for a long time as well, but his rate of growth remained steady and that’s what the doc said mattered most.

Is she fussy for a very long time after eating?

Just to encourage you, Myles did outgrow his DGE and now he eats like a horse! The boy downs 1/2 cup of oatmeal, 7 ounces of milk, and a jar of baby food for breakfast! And then he polishes it off with a couple fists full of cheerios.
