shane has had his hands CONSTANTLY in his mouth for about a month now.. he just cant stop it..
has anyone experienced this? i have been blaming it on teething.. but now i have strep throat…and i am scared that that is what its been all along! is that possible? he has had a cold for 2 months now..
i would know if it was strep with him right?March 27, 2008 at 8:38 pm #49486AnonymousInactiveMaybe check with a flashlight to see the classic signs–white spots on the tonsils. Also, I think the tonsils swell and get a little close together???
March 28, 2008 at 9:08 am #49505AnonymousInactiveYou may not know. I would take him in just in case and have them check. How many teeth does he have? It is possible it is teething. Can he tell you if his throat hurts? If he can’t I would probably go in esp since you have Strep. My neighbors 4yr old and 6 month old both recently had strep and she didn’t know until they went in.

I have been saying “teething”, but now I wonder??? If anything it would have to be her last 4 molars b/c she has all of her other teeth. I don’t see or feel anything though. Although, it’s getting VERY difficult to check her teeth now without my fingers getting a hard chomp! She thinks it’s funny now to bite mommy when I’m trying to look for teeth. I guess that’s payback for all the times I’ve felt her tender gums.
Is he acting normal? It wouldn’t hurt to have him checked out and if the doc. says everything is fine then I would assume it’s teething too. Let me know what you find out!
March 29, 2008 at 9:39 am #49559AnonymousInactivei dont see any other clues to why he would have strep.. no fever.. or acting like he is in any pain.. just a runny nose he has had for almost 2 months..
hmm.. i guess i will wait for any signs.. i hate that they cant tell you!and i am starting to get worried that the hands in the mouth like this is a sensory issue…. no other child in my family(neices and nephews) have done this with teething.. and i work in a pre-school and they dont do this either! i mean his hands are in his mouth CONSTANTLY!March 29, 2008 at 10:26 am #49561AnonymousInactivewe just got over strep and in Landen, he had swollen tonsils (really enlarged actually according to the pedi) and cold-like symptoms to follow. You could try looking yourself or if it’s too hard, get him in to the ped. Strep is def contagious. I got it from Landen.
The hands in mouth could also be teething. Landen is getting molars and does this and my older DS who has sensory issues chews on his fingers around food if he doesn’t want to eat it or is anxious about something. So I am not sure what “normal” is.March 29, 2008 at 1:25 pm #49578AnonymousInactiveIf he’s had a runny nose, then he probably has drainage, and I know that always gives me a sore throat. So maybe it’s not full blown strep, but his throat is still sore and raw..
