i agree britax makes the best carseats. they can be used for much longer due to the harness straps height, etc. we have an alpha omega and it is not going to last us too long because of the harness and height requirements. britax seats are also very comfortbale. the only thing is we couldnt afford a britax.
May 25, 2007 at 2:24 pm #34465AnonymousInactiveTracy, so I can use the rear facing car seat only for rear facing, right? It’s not like it’s reversable or is it?
May 25, 2007 at 2:26 pm #34468AnonymousInactiveObvioulsly we are no where near ready to turn Cooper around, but my question is: We have a graco Snug Fit/ride something, and the weight limit is 22lbs. He is already 13lbs and will probably be tall as his daddy is 6’5″. We are obviously going to have to buy a bigger seat in the next 6 months I would think either b/c of his wt or his ht… we were going to get a britax and I wanted to get one that went all the way up to 80lbs so that we wouldn’t have to keep buying car seats… are those able to be made rear facing??? Those videos made me decide that Cooper will stay rear facing as long as possible and I don’t care if I never ride in the front with my hubby again to help keep him happy and not crying….Thanks for adding this post.
May 25, 2007 at 2:35 pm #34473AnonymousInactiveBeth-this is a really great site for car seat info. this is where i found the videos and the links i posted. a lot of moms on here use britaxes, so im sure someone can give you a definitive answer.

the britaxes are convertable-meaning rear facing until 30-35 lbs and after that you forward face.
May 25, 2007 at 2:42 pm #34475AnonymousInactiveYep, the Decathalon is convertible so use it rear facing from 5-33 lbs and then forward facing from 20 lbs to 65 lbs.
May 25, 2007 at 2:47 pm #34477AnonymousInactiveFrom what I can find on britaxusa.com, they do not make a seat that can be used as rear facing AND that goes up to 80 lbs. There is one that goes up to 80 lbs but only can be used as forward facing. There are 2 that go up to 100 lbs but those only can be used as forward facing as well.
May 25, 2007 at 5:06 pm #34494AnonymousInactiveIf I remember correctly, they don’t have one that goes up to 80 pounds and can be rear facing. The highest one that does that is up to 65 pounds.
Kaelyn was horrible in the car until we switched her from the “baby” seat (I think it was a snug ride) to the Britax Wizard. She was much, much better once she was in a comfy seat (not wonderful, but significantly better).
Alex has always been much easier in the car, but she also did better once she was in a convertible seat. We couldn’t afford three more Britax seats (me, dh, and mil), so she’s in a Fisher Price Safe Voyage which is made by Britax, but is cheaper. It’s not as nice as the Britax and the fabric makes her sweat, but it’s a good compromise.
May 25, 2007 at 6:54 pm #34505AnonymousInactiveThe Britax Wizard is rear facing to 30 or 35 lbs, and forward facing to 60 or 65 lbs. I don’t think they are making the Wizard anymore but they probably have a model to replace it. I think it would be highly unlikely that a child would remain comfortable up to 80 lbs in a carseat anyway, so a 60 – 65 lbs. weight is probably more than adequate.
May 25, 2007 at 7:36 pm #34507AnonymousInactiveMy niece would still have to be in a carseat bc she’s not yet 80 lbs and she’s 13!!!
May 25, 2007 at 8:57 pm #34512AnonymousInactiveYes, that’s what I mean. Most average weight kids won’t reach 80 lbs until they are pre-teens! And most kids don’t weight 60 lbs until they are at least 7 – 9 yrs old. I can’t imagine many 7-9 yr olds being happy being driven to school in a car seat.

i know i think its ridiculous too…but im just wondering, isnt this technically the law now, to keep kids in boosters until they reach 80 lbs?
May 26, 2007 at 10:08 am #34535AnonymousInactiveMy little brother was less than 80lbs when he was 16!! I guess he should have been using a booster seat to drive. LOL
May 26, 2007 at 10:51 am #34538AnonymousInactiveNatalia, yes it’s the law to keep them carseats until 40 lbs, and in boosters until 80 lbs. Boosters seem reasonable for bigger kids, although I’m sure most parents stop using them long before 80 lbs.
Heather, LOL!
May 27, 2007 at 9:11 pm #34641AnonymousInactiveLadies, I found this website carseatdata.org…This website reveals which brands of car seats are most compatible with specific makes and models of cars. Though it’s not exhaustive, it’s extensive enough that there is a good chance it includes your vehicle.
Hmm, up to 80 lbs??? Yeah, I don’t think Ariella will let me drive her to Junior High in a car seat
