To everyone who owns a Britax
I read reviews on it and even though most people who own it, love it, they say that it’s very bulky and takes up most of the space in the back. We have a Honda Accord, will it be too tight for us? Do you feel that your Britax is too big?
May 28, 2007 at 9:48 am #34671AnonymousInactiveBritaxes are indeed big seats. We cannot fit two britax seats and a booster in the back of any car we looked at, so we ended up buying a van when I was pregnant with Myles.
But if you only have one or two children, I think the Britax seats would fit in most cars, but yes they do take up a lot of room. Width wise you would never be able to get three across, but two would probably work fine.
I imagine you will be using the seat rear facing for quite some time. So you will have to consider whether the seat will be scrunched up against the back of the driver’s and or passenger’s seats when installed rear facing. My dh is TALL and he has to keep his seat way back, so a rear facing Britax (or any other seat) was not possible behind him, and even in the middle it was a problem. The rear facing seat had to be installed behind me because I am short and can pull my seat up.
So, if you are thinking of a Britax I would get the measurements (I could measure my Wizards for you) and see if it will fit rear facing in your Accord. They are not making the Wizard anymore, so you may have to check the website and see if they list measurements for the seat you are looking into.
May 28, 2007 at 11:19 am #34687AnonymousInactiveI think you could do one Britax in an Accord, but like Christine said, if either of you are tall, it might be tough to fit it behind your seat. Ours is worth the size though. We love it!
Oh, you might be able to “test” it out in your car. I believe Babies R Us lets you do that. (Take the floor model out to your car and see if it fits.) I would call around and ask….its worth a shot.

The Britax is big, but I think that’s one of the reasons that it’s so comfortable.
May 28, 2007 at 4:39 pm #34717hellbenntKeymasterI am a HUGE proponant of rear facing for as long as possible!!!
jonah was rear facing until he was 2 & 1/2 (maybe a tad bit longer!)
there are new seats called Sunshine Kids Radian that are getting great reviews right along w/ britax
I get a lot of my info from the BBB (Baby bargains board) & also from TBW (thebabywearer)
This link goes over different brands, etc: carseat safety 101: http://www.windsorpeak.com/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topic& forum=13&topic_id=46400&mode=full&page
scroll through- the 3rd post down is:
“I can’t afford a Britax seat! What are my options for a convertible seat?” (convertible means rear facing then forward facing)

May 29, 2007 at 1:31 pm #34807AnonymousInactiveTracy and Kim, I hope I’ll be able to “try it out” before buying one b/c I don’t really want to order it online then have to return it b/c it’s too big. I’m 5’2″ and DH is 5’11”. It might be too tight for him but I don’t think he’ll mind
Laura, the link you gave me is not working for some reason 🙁 Can you resend it? Thanks.
Christine, thank you for offering to measure your car seat. Would you say Wizards are bigger or smaller than Decathalon or Marathon? I’ve got to go on their website and see if they offer measurements on their website.
May 29, 2007 at 1:53 pm #34816AnonymousInactiveHmmm….I don’t know but I’ll measure one of my wizards for you.
Height : 27.5 inches
Width (at widest point) 19 inches
depth (at widest point) 18 inches
Incidentally, we just tried to squeeze two wizards and a booster into my dh’s car (a kia amanti) and surprisingly they fit (tightly). The wizards are both forward facing. I didn’t try rear facing, but I think it would fit behind my seat, not behind dh because he’s so tall.

June 21, 2007 at 4:57 pm #37506AnonymousInactiveJust updating everyone on our car seat situation. We finally bought Britax Decathlon and it “looks” very comfortable. Ariella has not sat in it yet but tomorrow we’ll make the first trip It is huge and even though it fit in the car, it’s so tall that it blocks the rearview mirror. We’ll see if we keep it b/c we’re not loving the idea of driving and not seeing what’s going on around us.
