I have 9 month old MSPI twins (I have other posts which talk about how i reached this conclusion). They have been on puramino since the end of July..they still spit up a TON, but for the most part are pretty happy.
I have been thickening the formula with rice cereal (beechnut) and it seems to help the bigger twin with spitting up less. The other baby still spits up as much as ever (the GI and the ped both recommended this….It kind of goes against my better judgement, but I started doing it about three weeks ago because it seems like they were back to the pattern of eat, spit up, cry because they are hungry, eat, spit up, etc etc….and I figure maybe if the food stayed in their bellies it would help a bit.
Aaannnyway, on one of my twin boards, they are all talking about how bad rice cereal is and to use oatmeal or barley cereal instead. They do not have multiple food intolerant babies….so I have no idea if this is even true for mspi babies. One thing I thought of, is that they both have the red ring around their anus, so while everything else seems okay regarding other food issues (their only symptoms before were extreme irritiablity, mucus in the poop, the rash, and of course the spit up)(other than the reflux)(they were preemies, so I kind of think the reflux could be separate from the food issues). I have started them on squash and they don’t seem to be reacting to that (the rash was prior to squash).
(Back when I was bfing, they were reacting to something in my diet other than soy/dairy, but I switched to the formula instead of.doing TED)(kind.of.kicking myself for that one).
Isother cereal a better option for mfpi?
