Does the mylanta help when they’re having a big crying spell or during nap time when they are grunting alot? I’m trying to find the correct dosage. He is 10 lbs 8 oz and 7 weeks old. Been on the prevacid for 3 days. Will the Mylanta give him some comfort until the prevacid starts to kick in?
April 4, 2007 at 9:36 am #29480AnonymousInactiveOk, I just called the doctor to see if they could tell me how much mylanta and they said it’s not recommended for children under 2 years. Arghhh! So confused don’t know what to do. I just hate to hear the little guy grunt and moan the whole time he’s sleeping.
April 4, 2007 at 9:43 am #29484AnonymousInactiveYou can give Mylanta to babies. In fact, my sister’s doctor prescribed it for her baby’s reflux. She gave him about 2 ml. at 3 months old. (I’m not sure how old your baby is..) I’ve given it to Bryce now and then too. Just make sure to space it from the Prevacid by about 3 or 4 hours.
April 4, 2007 at 9:58 am #29487AnonymousInactivemy doctor said yes to mylanta too.. but only 1 ml at that age.. up to 4 times a day.. but i guess you can do 2ml’s if you need to.. only twice a day though?
April 4, 2007 at 4:06 pm #29529AnonymousInactiveWe use 2ml as well and find it to be a GREAT QUICK FIX if reflux is the cause of the fussiness! It’s almost a good “test” to see if that’s why she’s crying.
April 4, 2007 at 4:38 pm #29533AnonymousInactiveive been using mylanta since two months old.
April 4, 2007 at 7:46 pm #29543AnonymousInactiveAt 8 weeks, Kaelyn’s ped GI prescribed 1/4 tsp every 2 to 3 hours.
April 5, 2007 at 6:02 am #29590AnonymousInactiveMy pead (in aus) also OKed mylanta…and our kind has aluminium in it. 1ml at a time.
April 7, 2007 at 10:04 pm #29851AnonymousInactiveCan someone tell me how I should be using Mylanta in addition to my daughter’s Zantac? I still have to wait three days to talk to the dr. about changing her meds (he wants to give the Zantac a chance to work).
I bought the Mylanta Cherry Supreme tasting one, it says ‘with calcium’. Is that ok? How much should I be giving her, and how often? How soon does it work? How will I know if it’s helping? Do I give it to her before feeding her or after? How long does it continue working?
I need to be able to get food down her in the evening hours. She eats ok until about noon, and then all goes to heck.
She is 7 weeks old and about 11 pounds.

Hi and welcome
With the mylanta I would give it before feeding so it coats the eosophagus on the way down..maybe a ml or so. If she is still in pain during or after feeding you could then give another ml. Maybe 4 x per day…the worst thing that will happen is loose stools which will give you an idea to reduce the amount.
I just read your other post…OK maybe save it for the afo and night feedings if you find mornings are OK.
You could also give gaviscon a go? I think in the US it has aluminium in it…there was a recent post on it if you want to read more about it

April 8, 2007 at 8:39 am #29861hellbenntKeymasteralso: while you’re waiting:
make sure the zantac dose is at the highest it can be (if it’s not helping at whatever dose it’s at now)
zantac dose is 5-20mgs per kilo
take baby’s weight & divide by 2.2 for kilos
then take kilo weight & multiply by 10
this is how many miligrams a day of zantac your baby can have , total
to find out how many militers this is, divide by 15
(the zantac is 15mgs per ml)
then divide up the amount of mililiters per day, over the day
April 9, 2007 at 4:13 pm #29944AnonymousInactiveI was wondering the same thing & just asked my pedi today if I could give any over the counter instant relief meds to my 2 month old. She said no – that he is too young. Errr…it just doesn’t make any sense!
April 9, 2007 at 5:10 pm #29946AnonymousInactiveDo you know the cause of the constipation? How old is your baby? What formulas/foods are you using? Could the constipation be due to a food intolerance?
