My son’s GI doctor wants us to do night feeds overnight, but I did not get much sleep when we tried it. He is a very active sleeper and tosses and turns all night from one end of the bed to the other and gets tangled in the tubing. I think it’s impossible to do night feeds. Right now we are doing 100cs/hr from 7:30-10:30 and then unhooking him so we can all sleep peacefully. He has an NG tube right now but will get a G tube in another 2 weeks. Is it easier to do night feeds with a G tube?

You can secure the tube in his clothes and he probably won’t get tangled in it as easily. We have Bryce in a sling so that he stays in one place and we don’t have to worry about him moving all over the place and getting tangled. Good luck with the g-tube surgery!

When is he going to get his G tube?July 6, 2007 at 3:28 pm #38716AnonymousInactiveGood luck with the Gtube surgery.
You know, what we did for Matthew, because our little man uses every square inch of the mattress, is actually do boluses at night. But first of all – why do the feedings overnight? is it because you need more nutrition during the night? Or does he want to spread the 300mls he gets?Anyway – what we did is at 11pm and maybe 2am or something like that i woudl get up, feed him a bolus of 100mls and then go back to bed. It was tirying but it was better than me not sleeping at night ebcause the alarm would go off constantly etc.I owe you a PM on KKI…July 6, 2007 at 8:40 pm #38741AnonymousInactiveThank you for your replies. His GI doc wanted him to do the feedings overnight so he could still be hungry during the day to eat what little solid food he was eating. She thought it would be easier for me, but not so! Getting no sleep was making me miserable. He gets the G tube on the 19th of this month, so we’ll see if we can do night feeds then. Sometimes bolus feeds during the day aren’t quite as convenient. It seems like we have to plan everything around his feedings. I still want him to eat what little he is and not rely on the tube so much during the day. Thanks again for replying to my post. It is greatly appreciated.

Remember when you do switch from the NG to the G the reflux will get worse for a little while. It shoudl subside.BTW Dr. do overnight feeds because the tiny amounts that go in are unlikely to come back up as long as the rate goes in slow. That way the child can play catch up on their weight. For a while, it was the only way Jedd was gaining at all. -
