Sophie gets her upper GI tomorrow. I am hoping there are no structural abnormalities. A little nervous here, but my husband is coming with us.
I guess if nothing is shown, they’ll order a scope if she doesn’t get better. The Mylanta cherry supreme has been helping as has the increase of Prevacid. I don’t think the Zantac is doing anything at all, though. And then the Neocate transition. It seems to be so much. We thought we had it all under control from 6 weeks to 4.5 months as she never had any problems after starting the Prevacid, and then bam, one bad day turns into 4 bad weeks.
I just want answers.
August 9, 2011 at 4:44 pm #68818hellbenntKeymasterhow much does she weigh, have I helped you figure out zantac dose?
August 9, 2011 at 4:49 pm #68819AnonymousInactiveShe was 16 lbs last Thursday. She’s on 22.5 mg Prevacid split up into two doses, and 1.25 ml Zantac twice a day as an extra I guess. You told me if I felt like adding more Prevacid, to try it out. How does the Zantac dose look? Marci-Kids has been down for weeks (months?).
Thanks!
August 9, 2011 at 5:06 pm #68820hellbenntKeymasterthe marci-kids dosing is in Prevacid 101 and the zantac dosing is there, too
I happen to know zantac dosing by heart- it’s 10mgs per kilo
16lbs = 7.3 kilos
maximum zantac by weight is 10mgs per kilo, so
10 x 7.3 = 73mgs total of zantac for the day
your bottle of liquid zantac says 15mgs/mlthis means that for every 1ml of liquid you give, there’s 15mgs of the medicine zantac in that 1ml of liquidso: 73 divided by 15 = 4.86mls of zantac, total, for the dayyou are currently giving 2.5 mls a day, so there’s room to increase…August 9, 2011 at 6:15 pm #68824AnonymousInactiveYou are awesome! Thank you. I’m going to call her pedi because she prescribed it when Sophie was smaller. Thank you replying to my posts. I am grateful!
We just had a horrible feeding session. How can she have one where
she gobbles up everything and then wants nothing later? (retorical question).
August 9, 2011 at 6:20 pm #68825hellbenntKeymasterbefore you speak to your ped, TELL her HOW you came up w/ the dosing:
(bcse peds have different dosings! please read):August 9, 2011 at 6:49 pm #68827AnonymousInactiveWill do. Thank you so much! I am afraid she will hate me when all is said and done.
August 9, 2011 at 7:03 pm #68829hellbenntKeymastertoo bad. doctor is there to help your baby & if her ego gets in the way, that’s HER problem
August 9, 2011 at 7:13 pm #68830AnonymousInactiveI agree! She is super nice, but I have to advocate for my child until she stops hurting! And I can be really persistent. :). Thank you for your help!
August 10, 2011 at 6:19 pm #68837AnonymousInactiveResults are back. She refluxed and has delayed gastric emptying. Not totally surprised. Got her Zantac raised (thank you!). The Neocate is helping her poop more, so that is good.
We are being referred to pedi GI.
Her blood work came back and showed no allergies. I am going to search for DGE info so I know what I am talking about at pedi GI.
August 10, 2011 at 6:50 pm #68838hellbenntKeymasterallergy testing is inaccurate at this age…

August 10, 2011 at 7:48 pm #68839AnonymousInactiveThanks. We knew that and she’s being switched to Neocate, but no one in our family has issues with food. However, we are always careful in what we give her and look for reactions. I will check the links out, too! You are a wealth of info! Thanks!
I’m more concerned with the DGE at this point.
I also knew I wasn’t going crazy. Now everyone believes me when I said I knew something was wrong.
August 10, 2011 at 7:52 pm #68840AnonymousInactiveWhat great explanations! Thanks again.
August 10, 2011 at 8:24 pm #68841hellbenntKeymasteryou’re more than welcome! it’s my ‘thing’to do a search go to the upper right-hand corner of this screen & click on ‘search’choose ‘all forums’ on the left & from the drop down menu go BACK 6 months and OLDERsearch for delayed gastric emptying (I don’t think it’ll work w/ DGE bcse it’s only 3 letters) -
