Great to see you here Leo – the girls look adorable! I’m happy to hear Kendra is doing better.
Beth – Leo is a great resource in this area too! I’m so glad to see her input here as well. And just as she does with Kendra, we use a combination of a modified diet and digestive enzymes. For enzymes, I have used 2 different brands both with good success. Kirkman’s has a good one called EnZym-Complete DPP-IV http://www.kirkmanlabs.com/products/enzymes/enzym_dppiv/Enzym_Complete_w_DPP_IV_C_60_234.htmland Houston’s has a good one called TriEnzaAnd unfortunately, I know all about Candida. Both Ben and Paige battle chronic yeast overgrowth. Recurring thrush is definately something you want to address. Again, there is a reason for it, it just doesn’t happen over and over in a healthy GI system. And if the gut is overgrown with pathogens (yeast/candida, bad bacteria, viruses, etc.) this can all lead to reflux. Is your son on probiotics? They would likely be helpful, based on the info you’ve shared.MFPIx22008-09-11 11:31:32

we have used the ones Sheri mentioned, but has stayed with Digest Gold by Enzymedica for convenience reason and cost.To begin with though, you do no want to start with digets gold because is too potent for a damaged gut to handle; i recommend Lacto beacuse it is less potent, yet effective as well. I started with 1/4 cap added to each meal, then increased it until i saw improvement. You can switch brand and increase more as the gut heals. If you start with too much, you can have diahrea and stomach problems and you certainly don’t want more of that.I buy it here:i think i may have a coupon you can use if you decide to try it.Yes, i too know more than i want to know about Candida. Kendra had yeast overgrowth in her ears that results in multiple ears infections and eventually ear tubes. Now we battle yeast overgrowth in the gut and privates (as a matter of fact, we just finsihed a round of Diflucan no long ago and she is back to her happy self).Trush is Candida in the mouth and yes Candida can lead to reflux and food sensitivities. I recommend you talk to your ped about trying a round of Diflucan for your baby; it is a potent antifungal that address yeast EVERYWHERE in the body, no just the gut. You also want to start her on a potent probiotic for at least a month given away from any antifungal, then give one for maintainance. I use Detox Support (50 billion good bugs) from Klaire Lab for Kendra and Thera Biotic Complete (100 billion good bugs) for Melanie when they are sick with something. For maintainance i use Infant probitoic from Klaire lab and Costum probiotic.Good luck and i hope your little one gets better soon.LeoSeptember 11, 2008 at 12:18 pm #56406AnonymousInactiveSheri.
thanks! How is Page doing? i’ve been thinking about you guys.P.S Page’s cheeks are just so pinchableSeptember 11, 2008 at 1:37 pm #56412AnonymousInactiveThanks for all of the info!
The Pedi. just called me with the results from some bloodwork. She said he is now anemic. His Iron is find, so it’s not from that. She said he could be bleeding in his GI. I left a message with his GI Dr. hopefully I hear back today.
This Sh*t is crazy! It’s one thing after another and none of the Drs. seem to know for sure what is causing this. We are still waiting the RAST and one other blood test. I go for the sleep study results next week.
Ds was just on Diflucan, in fact he’s had it like 3 times already. That’s what we use to treat the thrush. It did seem that after we stopped it his symptoms came back. Is there one dr. who can put all of this together and come up with a answer, not just “here, take this RX”?
Kind of a vent there too!
Thanks for the links, I will get on that asap!September 11, 2008 at 2:58 pm #56416AnonymousInactivePerhaps a Naturopathic Doctor (ND) could be helpful? There are some medical doctors who also do this kind of work, addressing the body’s issues and not just suppressing symptoms, but they are usually not covered by insurance and have tremendous waiting lists. We have been waiting since May to get into one of the top ped GI’s in the world down in Austin Texas, and my kids finally have their first appointment with him in November.
A Naturopath, on the other hand, would be more likely to address the body as a whole and try to understand why the symptoms are present. We have seen tremendous improvements with diet and natural supplements, in addition to prescription acid-reducers and antifungals. Thankfully we now see a doctor who believes in partnering both modern medicine and traditional holistic medicine. It’s important to remember that if we only treat the symptoms, it is very difficult to actually get well. Someone needs to address what is actually happening in your son’s GI tract to cause the reflux, recurrent thrush, anemia, etc. It sounds like there is a combination of factors (foods, digestion, yeast overgrowth, inflammation, etc.) all leading to the symptoms you are seeing. I really hope you can find someone who can help. In the meantime, do what you can. Try to eliminate possible problem foods. Consider adding digestive enzymes. Introduce good probiotics, and if he is already on some, consider increasing the dose or changing to a more potent brand.MFPIx2 2008-09-11 14:59:29 September 11, 2008 at 3:31 pm #56425AnonymousInactiveWe saw a Naturapath for our stool analysis and IgG allergies testing. Our testing were very informative and gave us something to start working on.
As sheri said, most of them are not covered by insurance and the testing is very expensive. Pherphas once you see a Naturapath, he/she can calll your ped and have her/him order the test since insurance might cover them when order through them. Just a thought.LeoSeptember 12, 2008 at 7:44 pm #56498hellbenntKeymaster -
