Our LO is just over 2. He had bad silent reflux as a baby, off of PPI since last March. Before he was a year old, his immune system crashed and we have had trouble gaining weight ever since. We have had dehydration in the past and FTT, we started using pediasure, tried vital jr In the meantime, we found out he cannot tolerate pediasure and now basically will not drink anything that looks like milk. He is off of straight dairy. So now….he has not gain since his first initial gaining, he is stuck at 24 lbs and height and HC stalled too. We just did a PH probe to see if he is still refluxing, he has a small appetite, and an abdominal US to see if there are any other issues. Any worked up by any other specialist have been negative. He has chronic hiccups as well. Which decrease his appetite.
SO once we get the test back, the GI will decide if we need an NG tube for awhile. He also has low IGG that is climbing up to normal, so this all could be contributing as well because he is using more calories to stay well.
My questions is…if they find he is still refluxing, would you do the tube to give him a boost until the meds start working and he hopefully increases his appetite, or see if he will do it on his own and wait to see if we need to the tube? It’s hard to decide how long to go. We have been pushing it off for awhile now.
