One dose per day or two?

I give my baby 22.5 MG of prevacid solutab every day. I’ve been giving her the whole dose in the morning. Do you think I should split it up into one dose morning and the other half at night? The reason I give it all in the morning is that she eats so often during the day, the only time I’m REALLY sure her tummy is empty is first thing in the morning.

She does sleep through the night, although she shifts around quite a bit in her crib in the early morning hours. (maybe that is normal baby behavior?) She stays asleep even while moving all over the crib, and she wakes up happy (no bursts of crying out in her sleep). So I’m thinking it’s okay to just give one dose in the morning? The doctor didn’t care what I did–said the medicine stays in her system for about 18 hours. I don’t want her to be “unprotected” for part of the night.

Just wondered if anyone else had success with one daily dose.

The 18 hrs thing is true for adults, but not for babies. They metabolize this drug as much as 3 times faster than adults, which is why they generally do much better on 2 or 3 doses. I would try to split up the doses and give them morning and night.

We split Zach’s dose in half and he does great that way. If we
are having a REALLY bad day, (which doesn’t happen much anymore) we give a smaller dose in the morning and a larger dose before bed.

Hi! I think if its working for you now – why mess with a good thing? Babies do metabolize faster but if they are on a regular dose for a while then their system should be healed from any risidual reflux damage and apparently the am dose is enough to keep things under control.

Generally a dosing is split due to nighttime acid breakthrough issues – my daughter actually got 1/4 in the am and 3/4 at night for a while because thats when she needed it most. If things start to change with Mary’s sleep then atleast you know you have a plan B but for now, if it works it works right?
