Probiotics replace the “good” bacteria in the gut – like acidophilus,
bifidus, etc. Many babies, adults, etc have an imbalance of yeast,
bacteria etc in their guts (often from antibiotic use, diet, etc) and
the use of probiotics is thought to help restore balanace.
I take them myself and have had Marisa on baby ones for 3 months now
and am convinced it’s played a part in helping her digestive system
mature and handle foods she previously had problems with. BTW, she was
on antibiotics for 48 hours after birth – we both had fevers during
delivery, which turned out to be nothing, but it’s a rule then for IV
antibiotics while they await blood results.
I give her 1/2 teaspoon of Baby Primodophilus in her morning bottle every day.
Probitiocs are also in yogurt – that’s what they mean when they say live cultures…
