As some of you may already know, Michael was tested and he has a full on allergy to both dairy and soy. The allergist told me that he will grow out of this by 2 and we have another test set up for Sept 12 at 19 months. However we had a checkup at the GI last week and both GI’s told me that usually when they are tested after 1 year of age they usually don’t grow out of the allergy.
Does anyone have any input or responses from their doctors? Please tell me that the allergist is right…..
Our ped said if they have allergies at such a young age most of them will outgrow them. My dh’s cousin had several different food allergies and outgrew most of them by the time he was starting school.
Kaelyn was diagnosed with her allergies at 16 months and we were told that she has a very good chance of growing out of them. I hope that our allergist is right and that your GI is confused!
Could the severity of the allergy have anything to do with how fast they outgrow them?
My nephew had a deadly allergy to nuts and dairy. Diagnosed as an infant. Now at 18 years old, he still can’t really tolerate them, but they aren’t as deadly to him. He may just break out all over his body instead of his throat swelling shut.
I think that the severity of allergy could definitely play a part in their ability to outgrow the allergy. We were also told that the better we are about avoiding the foods now, the greater her chance of outgrowing the allergy. Although, we weren’t told that she’d outgrow it by 2. He said that it would probably be closer to 5.
