InactiveWell, I have only been around here and there lately, occasionally posting, but now I need some help if you have experienced this frustration. For the last two days, Brodie has been willingly feeding himself the food I put in front of him, but then as he chews it up to the point of where he would swallow it, he spits it out. So, I thought he didn’t want what he was eating, but he even does it with his favorites. I think he may be getting his final molars, top and bottom because he is constantly chewing on things like the handle of his spoon or fork. The only thing I have been able to get him to eat is potato chips and ice cream. If I feed him yogurt and distract him he’ll take that for the most part. It is awful!! I feel like these feeding issues are never going to end and he is 26 months!!!! I suppose I am supersensitive to every non-eating day because of the dreadful reflux days, but it is so hard… Please help if you have any thoughts!!!

InactiveKaelyn has been doing that a lot lately. Like you said, she’s even done it with some of her favorites. She chews until it’s ready to swallow, then she spits it out into her hand, smiles and hands it to us. She’ll have a day or two when she does it a lot, then we’ll have a few good days, then she’ll do it again. I’ve just been assuming that it’s a phase that she’s going through.

Inactivesylvia did this for awhile—–her tonsils were really large and i think it was just too much for her to try and swallow, so she would spit it out instead.

InactiveOwen does this too! He’s gone in phases doing it and I definitely think it’s related to teething. It happened when his molars came in and now the eye teeth are coming and it’s happening again. I wouldn’t worry too much about it – Owen always eats less but still manages to eat and starts eating normally again a few days later. It should pass quickly.

InactiveMarisa seems to do this when teething too! I hope it passes and he gets his
molars all in soon!

InactiveThanks for your replies, it makes me feel a little better to know it’s not that abnormal, but it still is awful to deal with. He did however eat a good sized bowl of Sponge Bob mac-n- cheese last night with no issue. He must have gotten so hungry he gave in. I wonder if I’ll always have food issues with him. I wish I could not let it bother me, but it does and stresses me out to the point that I can’t enjoy myself if I’m out somewhere and he won’t eat. Everyone always says they’ll eat when they are hungry, but with him I don’t necessarily think that’s the case. He also has been saying on and off, sometimes while he’s eating and sometimes after that his tummy hurts, so I wonder if something else is bothering him too, I pray it’s not reflux!!!
