InactiveHi all,
Just thought I would run this past all of you to see what you think….I tried giving Lucas beef for the first time last week (he’s 23 months), cooked it in only a bit of olive oil, stir-fry style and he ate about four little bites around 5 pm. He eats a lot of chicken and pork, so I figured these little bites were a fine start. He was totally fine, like always, during daylight hours. He went to bed normally (for us). Then at 12:30 am he wakes crying (which isn’t completely abnormal for him). I wasn’t in bed yet, by the time I get to him he’s screaming and flopping around on the bed. He is completely INCONSOLABLE for 15 minutes. He won’t let me hold him– which is very unusual– usually holding and bfeeding fix nearly EVERYthing. The only thing I could equate his behavior to was my own labor experience as I was dialating near the 7-9 cm range and haden’t taken any drugs yet. I couldn’t get him to take Mylanta at the first two tries…Anyway, I finally forced some Mylanta down his throat. Within five minutes he was letting me hold him, completely subdued and then I put on Baby Einstein (a real treat at our house) and he fell asleep rocking with me watching the video. The whole thing took nearly 45 minutes.
there were no other reactions other than this, that I can tell. the only other thing that was different last week was he got some vaccines (we delayed some vaccinations while he was young and we’re catching up a bit) but he got the shots on Tuesday and this was Friday. Anyway, he’s always had these night wakings which I’ve linked to food intolerances and the allergist is now backing me saying he’s definitely mult. protein intolerant, but this was so scary. It seems a little too cooincidental for this to NOT be linked to the beef, but I wanted to see if this has happened to anyone else? I mean, this was many many hours after eating the beef that this episode happened. He was arching so severely I couldn’t even keep him in my arms. He sleeps on a queen sized mattress, and he was all over it and screaming so loudly I am positive the neighbors on both sides of us could hear it. It was much worse than his average night waking. It hasen’t happened since. NEedless to say, I won’t be giving him beef anytime soon.
any thoughts?

InactiveThey say that milk and beef allergies/intolerances can be linked since they come from the same animal. So maybe he had an issue since he is on a dairy free diet. No idea really, just guessing.

InactiveI agree that it could be the beef for the same reason Kim says. But it might
also be a reaction to the shots I guess – depending which ones he got?

InactiveWell, he had reacted to beef everytime i had it early on with nursing, so I have only had it once since he was 3 months old, and he’s never had it directly. I completely agree with the “whole cow” theory, it’s not just the milk, apparently for some of us it’s anything with the cow’s proteins in it. I was just wondering if this was the sort of reaction anyone else had experienced from a severe protein intolerance when introducing and re-introducing foods….
If it was the shots, there was nothing at all for over 72 hours, and then this one singular episode at 12:30 am 3 1/2 days later….kinda wierd….

InactiveSome shots, like MMR and chicken pox, have a delayed reaction – but it
sounds more to me like it was the beef.

InactiveMy son can not eat anything & we are in the process of introducing foods for the 5th time. The dr wants us to try things without testing them first if my older son is eating something & Trevor wants one too . I couple of weeks ago we did that with puffs (a couple) and he was ok during the day (maybe around 3pm). That night he was up from around 12:30 – 4am, he was completely inconsolable which he hasn’t been since June after going on the Neocate. The next night he was ok.

InactiveMy dd was diagnosed as having a milk allergy when she was just a few weeks old. SO, I had to be on a dairy free diet, I still ate beef. That is until she screamed for 2 1/2 hours straight, totally inconsolable and she was only a few weeks old. After a burp, she finally slept. After that I never ate beef again! I finally realized if she was allergic to the milk she must be allergic to the the cow too.
