InactiveSo, my daughter was diagnosed with colic at about 3 months. I kept insisting after reading so much that it was reflux. Well, she finally quit throwing up and the crying after she was 6 months old. She never really slept well through the night though since then. We rarely have nights where we sleep thru the night. Then, the chronic cough started. I have taken her to the hospital twice after the pediatrician asked for chest x-rays because of the frequent visits for the cough. Now, about 3 weeks ago she began throwing up in the middle of the night. Not just once, but several hours of throwing up. This has happened 6 times in the past 3 weeks. Now, the pediatrician wants to send her to the gastro. Has anyone else been through this?? She is 19 months old now!

InactiveSorry there are no replys. I have sort of been through it. I diagnosed my first son myself. I also had to get a second opinion because his original ped didn’t have a clue. With my second son I also diagnosed him, but earlier than the first. Although I was in denial for a good week or two. So, I guess what I’m saying is yes, sometimes it takes the peds awhile. I know other moms on here have gone through the same thing. I’m sorry your having to go through this.

InactiveHi there. Welcome to the site. I’m sorry that you’re going through this with your daughter. I certainly feel your pain in the lack of sleep department… my daughter can wake upwards of 10 times a night from reflux, and she never sleeps through. It’s exhausting.
It sounds like even though your dd stopped outright spitting at 6 months, she may have continued to have silent reflux that wasn’t diagnosed. I think it’s a good idea to see a GI doc, since the chronic cough could also be other things, but it definitely does sound suspicious for reflux. I don’t know about the hours of vomitting in the night though. That doesn’t typical of reflux to me. Might she have caught a tummy bug on top of things?
Good luck to you. I hope that you can get things sorted out at the GI’s. Keep us posted.
BTW, Laura, our moderator, has a great intro that you can find “stickied” under the introduce yourself section of the forum.
Again, best of luck to you. Hang in there.

InactiveHello! My daughter will be 18 months this week so I know how you are feeling. I think it would be a great idea to see a ped GI, they know so much more about all this. Was she ever on any medication?? Reflux can definitely cause the coughing and vomiting but so can allergies or intolerances. Is she drinking milk?? If so that could be bothering her to. Emma is still on Alimentum. We knew for sure that she could not tolerate milk b/c she was vomiting all the time and as soon as we took her off the milk based formulas she hasn’t vomiting since. Now every time she has dairy she has diarrhea with mucous. How are her BM’s? I would definitely check into this, hopefully you could get her on a med or change her diet and she will be just fine. Hang in there and let us know what happens!!

InactiveShe is seeing a GI doctor on Fri. I don’t think it is a tummy bug, she has been doing it for 3 weeks now and has no other symptoms. Thank you all for the replies and I will post again Monday after seeing the doctor!
