Nathan was on Zegerid 2x day (10mg each) until ~14 months old, when I weaned him. Turned out it was a big mistake to take him off the meds … I recently found out that his reflux is a symptom of a much bigger problem … enterocolitis. Anyway, long story short … our new GI doc (who specializes in children on the autistic spectrum) just Rx’ed Prevacid solutabs, 15mg 1x day.
Does anyone (Joel?) know at what age kiddos start to metabolize the meds more like adults and need only 1 dose per day? I really trust this doctor, but I remember so clearly the need to dose more frequently …
Also … solutabs have lactose in them, right? Nathan is dairy-free, but it’s because of casein, not lactose. The doctor (who didn’t even know that lactose was in the solutabs) said that we should be OK, since lactose does not contain casein. He also said he has lots of casein free kids on solutabs. Anyone have any thoughts on this either?
Thanks in advance. It’s been a heartbreaking few months, and I’m really looking forward to getting Nate on track with a healthy GI tract. What a way to start a life.
