InactiveKayleigh started Zegerid on Tuesday 9/12 and I was wondering when should I really see some reflief. Is it the same as prevacid (10-14days) or sooner? Besides more visable refluxing we are starting to have night wakings again, acidy breath, and top it off ear infections! I’m crossing my fingers with Zegerid, if we fail this we are being sent to a GI surgeon to discuss a fundo! Thanks

InactiveLynn:
With Abby (of course she was only a month old) we noticed great improvement within a few days and total relief at about 2 weeks. The ear infections certainly can throw things off – is she on something for the ear infection? Hopefully when that clears up, you will see a totally different little Kayleigh (by the way, I just LOVE that name)
. Hope things improve for you soon and you won’t have to deal with the fundo. Robin

Inactivewe saw improvement in a few days. honestly, if you feel the meds are ‘not working’, her dose is too low. many moms think the meds arent working until they try the marci-kids.com dosing recommendations, and suddenly, the meds work! many doctors underdose PPI’s. good luck.

InactiveYou should probably check her dose at http://www.marci-kids.com Myles did not get any better until he was on the high dose that they recommend. But, certainly the ear infection can be contributing to her misery right now. Myles just had one and he screamed almost constantly for two weeks, wasn’t sleeping well, and he didn’t want to eat; and his reflux is gone now so it wasn’t that.
The acidy breath does make me suspicious that her dose isn’t high enough, though.

InactiveThanks to all! I’ve not smelled the acidy smell today so I think that’s a great improvement already. We started at a middle dose and her ped will go up if necessary. Her ped spoke with marci-kids and mayo clinic to come up with a workable dosage for us. It’s just expensive since our insurance won’t cover it fully so I’m hoping not to have to go up just yet but will if needed. Her ears were treated with drops and oral antibiotics they just haven’t fully improved and since she has tubes I can visibly see it is still yucky! We have another appt this afternoon with the ENT.
Sounds like everybody saw good improvement within a few days to week so I’ll give her the weekend before discussing new dosage with her ped. Thanks again I wasn’t sure if I needed to wait 10-14 days. I would go crazy waiting that long again. It breaks my heart when she tells me she hurts and points to her throat/chest. This is a kid who fractured a rib and didn’t complain so I KNOW this hurts! Hope everyone has a good weekend!

InactiveZegerid has a coupon available at their website for $30 off. I think you can use it even with insurance. You may want to check it out. http://www.zegerid.com
I’m glad to hear you are not smelling the acid anymore…hopefully the dose she is on will be enough for her. I hope her ear infection clears up soon.

InactiveYep, the $30.00 applies to your out of pocket expense and you can use it over and over. It does expire in Dec so hopefully the wonderful folks at Zegerid will renew it again.
Hope it will be the answer for you. It really is no fun watching a little sweetie suffer. You deserve a happy health child also

Please keep us posted on how she is doing

InactiveThanks so much for the coupon I had no idea! Maybe we should send some thank you’s to the company along with some plea’s for a continued coupon we might get them to keep it going?
As far as acid breath it’s not there however at the ENT’s yesterday he saw what he thought was stomach acid draining from her ears! YUCK! So he did a culture and I should know next week some time. When she got tubes 18months ago they found acid in there along with infection so I already have a feeling it’s acid. Grrr poor little girl!
Hope everyone has a good weekend!

InactivePoor sweetie.
If it is acid, I’d really push for a higher Zegerid dose. I hope she’s feeling better soon. -
