InactiveI’m posting this here and on the meds board because I need some help here.
We just got our 15 MG Prevacid solutab Rx for my 7 week old daughter Anika and I thought I knew what to do but clearly I’m doing something wrong…
I tried to give her a full dose this evening and then I’m planning on starting her on the 1/2 dose twice a day tomorrow. Problem is it would be generous to say that she got 75% of tonights dose!
First, she spit/ drooled a lot out and I was trying to scoop it up off of her lip and cheek and back in her mouth. Then there was a good amount still in the syringe. I tried multiple times to get more water in and re-adminster it but all that did was force more of what was in her mouth out on her lip and beyond yet what was in the syringe just stayed in there.
The net result was there was still some in the syringe as well as all over her neck, hair, ears… Lord, I really did make a mess of it.
H~E~L~P!!! Please give me some hints here. With my son, he didn’t get diagnosed until he was 10.5 months old so we used the capsules sprinkled into yogurt or applesauce. That was SO EASY…
OK, so what I did was I put the solutab in the “Prevacid” labeled syringe from the doctor, put the pusher thing in, and then sucked up about 4 ml of water. I held my finger over the end and shook it around. I wasn’t sure how long it took to disolve (I guess I was expecting more of a full disolve rather than the little beads) but after about a minute I went to adminster the med. I had Anika on a blanket on the floor and I put the syringe into her cheek. Problem though is that the syringe is quite big and her mouth is little… I think it was just way too much water so even though I tried to go slow and only do a little she still spit/ drooled a lot of it out right away. I freaked (sort of) and started scrambling to scoop it up off of her lip and cheek and put it back in her mouth. Then I just kept trying to suck up more water to finish what was in the syringe but it’s like it was stuck. Finally I just started hitting the other end of the syringe on my hand to get as many beads as possible in my hand and then I tried to kind of wipe them on her gums or the inside of her cheek.
I know… it was a disaster.

InactiveHi Leanne,
I answered your other post….

I made a mess and had to wipe beads off of Myles face and try pushing them in a few times, too. Not fun.
Check out my other post and then if you have any other questions, I’ll try to help.
