hannah for the last few days has been “chewing” alot and smacking her lips. there seems to be alot of saliva in her mouth. she is eating between 17-20 oz a day. could this be another sign of silent reflux?
Myles used to do the lip smacking and and opening and closing his mouth when he was refluxing. At least I always assumed it was reflux related, but I never knew for sure. Now that he has pretty much outgrown his reflux he does it only ocassionally when he seems to be bringing something up and swallowing it back down.
Not sure about the saliva. Might she be teething? Teething babies often have lots of excess saliva, and drooling.
she is doing it all day. today she has only eaten 8 oz since 12am and everytime i try to feed her she screams like she is in pain after 1 oz. ugh i am so frustrated and i feel like none of the docs want to help.
Poor sweetie. Haveyou asked her doctor about a PPI medication? Sounds like that’s what she needs. H2 Blockers like Axid and Zantac are not very effective because they are so weight sensitive and babies tend plateau on them and no longer get any relief. Also, they do not stop acid production like the PPI’s do. My daughter was on Zantac and she was miserable and never got any better until she outgrew her reflux at 9 months. My son was on Prevacid and he did so well on it. I hope you can get Hannah on a PPI. Here’s a link where you can read about these meds and maybe print and bring or fax the info to Hannah’s doctor. That’s how I convinced my son’s doctor.
