InactiveI am trying to figure out how much weight a baby should gain at this age.
Ryder will be 5 months on the 2nd of Oct so he is about 4.5 months old. He was weighed on the 7th of sept and was 13.7 and today he was 13.15lbs. He was 7.14 at birth. He is pretty long but I am not sure how much he should be gaining at this age. Thanks

Inactivehave you had any doc appts? they should tell you.
my son is 4 months old and 12 lbs 8 oz, and he is in the 7th percentile for weight. our ped said that is not good, and now she wants to keep a close eye on his weight.
looks like your son might be a little underweight too according to the charts, but check with your ped!September 26, 2006 at 6:29 pm #14353Anonymous
Inactiveall babies are different, my son has a friend who, as a baby, was off the chart when it came to weight (underweight) but he was gaining and on his own little growth curve, my nephew has always only been in the 8% percentile, but again, he’s gaining steadily and just on his own curve. My sister’s doctor was never worried because he was gaining weight and eating fine, he’s just little! Did he get weighed at the doc’s office? If he did and he dr didn’t say anything about it then he’s probably fine.

InactiveMy twins weren’t ever on the charts and still aren’t! but I thought with a full term baby I wouldn’t have to worry so much but he is the 25% percentile right now. My dr didn’t seem to worried but he did say he gains and then falls behinf somedays

InactiveAt one time I was told a baby “should” gain an ounce a day but I’m not sure when that’s supposed to slow down? Maybe someone else could answer that. I’m thinking by 3-5 months it slows down but I’m not sure by how much. Sorry I couldn’t be more help!

InactiveI’m pretty sure Myles’ doctor said they gain an ounce a day for the first three or four months, then 1/2 ounce per day for a few months, then even less. So, in 19 days he’s gained 8 ounces. That’s pretty close to 1/2 ounce per day.
Another rule of thumb I’ve read is that they should double their weight in six months. Looks like he’ll do that.
I’m sure he’s fine.September 26, 2006 at 8:59 pm #14366Anonymous
InactiveWell, it is more important that he follows his own curve than where he is on the charts. it is a relative game – when the ped sees a big drop or a big gain they become concerned.
If you are worried, take him in for a weight check in a couple of weeks in the ped’s office. Seems like his recent weight gain has been good.
