InactiveOk so it is 6.20am here and i have been up for 2 hours
The meds are helping my daughter and during the day she seems happy most of the time. She is still uncomfy eating and sleep is still a battle, but she has a cold and i keep telling myself things will get better when it goes
The problem we have and have always had is some of the time she will sleep fairly well but early mornings get difficult.
For example last night she went to sleep at 8.00pm woke at 11.20pm, slept until 3.30pm then tossed and turned in a light sleep until 4.00am then was awake and nothing would get her back to sleep. She started to make noises and play but i could tell she was uncomfy.I give her zantac when she woke at 11.20 and 3.30 but i don’t know that it does much she normally has the omeprazole at about 5-6pm.
How can i help her sleep longer??
Should i give the omeprazole just before bedtime?
What do you all do?
Or are your babies waking early too!!September 28, 2006 at 7:18 am #14507Anonymous
InactiveNatalie:
My oldest daughter really didn’t do well on Zantac – could it be something with that that is not allowing her to sleep? I think it has alcohol in it and maybe she is reacting to it by not being able to rest comfortably? Just a thought.
These little sweeties are so hard to figure out. Are you planning to start solids soon? When Abby was about that age, she started waking during the night and once we started her on solids, she has been a great sleeper ever since. It’s hard to know when they are ready for solids and it is a personal decision on each parents part but it could help.
Hope things get better for you soon!!

InactiveFunny Robin b/c we had the opposite experience with the solids… Hailey has always been an awful sleeper but things definitely turn a turn for the worst when she started solids. I think they gave her gas and bothered her tummy and reflux even more. They’re all so different.
I just have a few more questions:
1. Are you giving the losec all in one dose or do you split it throughout the day. I think giving it all in one dose gave Hailey tummy pains for some reason, and we had better luck splitting it, and giving the evening dose right before bedtime before her last feed. That way when her tummy was getting ready to produce acid from the feed, the losec would be peaked to stop acid production.
2. Are you doing night feedings as well? We had to do them with Hailey b/c she didn’t eat well, but we were told by many people that night feeding reallly aggravates night sleep by causing the tummy to be too full while the baby is not entirely upright, and also causing high nocturnal acid production.
3. How is she sleeping- on her back, on her tummy, flat, elevated? You might want to try and prop her up a bit if she is flat. It is quite common for them to have breakthrough acid at night.
4. Robin’s thought about the alcohol in the zantac is a good one. Can you try giving mylanta supreme for breakthrough acid instead?
It can be so trying to sort all these things out. But I’m glad to hear that she’s happy during the day on her meds now. Hang in there.

InactiveNatalie, I just found such an interesting article on medline about this topic. I’ll post it in a separate thread to make sure others see it.

Inactivethanks everyone!
yes she feeds twice in the night although she will wake more times but just has a few sucks to get back to sleep (i’m breastfeeding and co-sleeping)
I do have her cot propped up but she normally ends up in my bed as she wakes so many times and i get so tired!!
I split the losec dose into two so one in the morning and normally one at 5-6pm, although she doesn’t normally sleep until 8.00pm so i might try giving it later.
I tried to feed her 1 hour before bedtime but the only way i can get her to sleep is to feed her so i’m at a loss as to what to do to get her to sleep otherwise as it is a real struggle. I’m hoping when her cold goes things might be a bit easier? as at the moment she is not sleeping in the day today as its quite bad!
Reflux really is up and down! yesterday was a great day but last night and today not good!

InactivePerhaps she needs a higher dose of Omeprazole. Also, giving it closer to bedtime may help.

InactiveMy son has been doing the same thing for over a month now. He is now having tremours. Not to say that will happen to yours, but please keep me posted. I would love to know if your baby starts sleeping better, if you find out what is wrong, or if your baby starts having tremours. Also, my son is on Zegerid which is the same as the med yours is on only with an added buffer.
Hope your baby starts sleeping better soon.
