InactiveOK, this makes me mad – just saw this article on the web, and wanted to pass it along to moms out there on elimination diets and those who have kids with issues.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11326937/
Apparently, McD’s is now saying that their fries – which they previously said had no potential allergens – contain milk and wheat ingredients. Maybe it is too little to be an issue, but when I was on the elimination diet for a YEAR, fries were my only option at McD’s, and I used to swear James was fussier a day after I had them but kept telling myself I was imagining it. I really didn’t want to give up those fries! Even with a several large fries a week habit, I still lost 60lbs that year! (Wish I could say I kept it all off!) Anyway, just wanted to pass this along.

Inactivetricia,
thanks for posting this. i just looked on the mc donald’s website and it does say that the fries contain wheat and milk. this makes me upset too. we don’t frequent mc donalds too often but it was nice to be able to go get some fries for a special treat! i mean i can’t take the gang out for ice-cream so we’d go get fries!!!! julianna is going to be very sad. it’s funny what you say about james being fussier after- i would notice that the kids all had very loose bm’s after but i kept telling myself it was the grease. ugh!
i guess it wasn’t!February 13, 2006 at 3:13 pm #1463Anonymous
InactiveWow, that is really disappointing. It really makes me wonder what they heck they are using for flavoring.

InactiveAre you KIDDING me??? We gave Jack mcd’s fries both Sat and Sunday b/c they are (were) the only safe fast food out there for him for a treat. Nice! On a positive note, he didn’t have a huge reaction, but he was a bit fussy.

Inactivethis has been a major topic of discussion on the celiac boards. we don’t eat out, so it hasn’t been an issue for us.

InactiveThank you so much for sharing this. Ally is sensitive to wheat and she loves french fries–I’ll know to stay away from them now.

InactiveTricia, thanks for posting this. I’m so upset by this. Dh just checked their site a few weeks ago and it said that fries were safe. Fries were the only thing that we felt were safe to eat if we were out and needed to grab something quickly. She’s only had them a handful of times, but she really likes them.

InactiveYes, the fries do contain milk products. I just looked at this last week myself. I do not know about other fast food chains but the Wendy’s fries are MSPI safe as well as their chicken fingers (not nuggets) and of course the hamburgers.

InactiveThat is horrible! Luckily i never gave Isaac a fry from mc donalds! I used to work at wendys and i can say that they are mspi safe. Also the chili is mspi safe though this is for the older kids not Isaac yet!
