InactiveHi everyone – been gone for a few days after having what was “supposed” to be a normal, run of the mill, gallbladder removal surgery on Friday. Well, let’s just say, it has been anything but “normal”.
Went in early Friday am to have it done. After I came out of recovery, the nurse said that all went well and I should be feeling better in no time and sent me home. Well, later on Saturday, things went from bad to worse and by Sunday AM, I couldn’t even stand up without screaming in pain. So off to the ER we went where they gave me two shots of Demoral within a couple of hours and that wouldn’t even cut the pain. They did an ultrasound and some lab work and said everything looked great but I still totally felt like crap. So they sent me home with more pain meds and said to call if there were more problems.
Well, yesterday was no better so we called the doctor’s office who did the surgery. He never even visited with me or my husband at all on the day of the surgery. We visited with his nurse first yesterday who said that the surgery was “uncomplicated” so she didn’t know why I would be having this amount of pain. My husband called her back later and asked if she would review the surgery report with him and then she launched into a report that said they couldn’t find my gallbladder at first and had to “dig” around for it and had to do a lot of “scraping around” to find it and get it out. So, now all of a sudden, this uncomplicated surgery is complicated. If I hadn’t hurt so bad, I would have driven into town and really let them know how I felt. At least if they would have explained right after surgery that things hadn’t gone as well as they had hoped, I would have felt better about the whole situation. I have an extremely high pain tolorance – barely took any pain meds when I had my 2 c-sections, but this has been like nothing else I have ever experienced. Pain bad enough to keep me away from this site for over 3 days – now that must have been bad
Well, back on my Tylox every 4 hours and 800 mg of Ibuprofen every 4 hours. And to top it all off, yesterday was my birthday – what a crappy way to spend it!!Thanks for letting me vent – feeling a little better this morning

InactiveYuck. I’m sorry. I HATE being blown off when I KNOW something is wrong! My GB had gangrene and was actually “growing” into my liver. That surgery took alot more recovery time than any of my C-sections.

On a lighter note HAPPY BIRTHDAY, and I hope you start to feel better soon.

InactiveRobin,
That’s awful! These docs can be frustrating some times. I’m sorry that you’re feeling so crummy and hope that you’re back on your feet (and at your computer) again soon!!!
And happy belated b-day!

InactiveThese doctors.
That’s just inexcusable that they didn’t tell you the whole truth. When I had mine done the surgeon was in my room within hours after the surgery and he told me it took longer than normal and that he really had to “work at it” to get mine out. I didn’t really understand what he meant but at least he took the time to talk to me and tell me what happened. I hope you’re feeling better soon. My family doctor said you should really rest for a week. Of course I couldn’t because DH won’t do anything unless I’m dead or unconscious, and because of that I had some problems with one of my incisions not healing for months.
So, if you can get as much rest as possible.
Feel better soon.

InactiveWow, I’m sorry you had to go through such an ordeal. I hope you get feeling better soon. I know it’s especially hard to not feel well when you’re a mommy. It sounds like you have a good husband to help you out though. Get well soon & Happy belated birthday!!
