InactiveMy four month old son was reecntly diagnosed with reflux/Sandifer’s and I notice how much better he sleeps on his tummy. I only let him do this during the day though, because I can check on his 3,000 times. I am worried about doing it at night, but at the same time, if I do not get some sleep I am going to lose it! I feel like I am at my wit’s end. I am SO tired…seems like that’s a commom complaint with reflux babies.
Does anyone have any experience with those monitors they make for tummy sleeping? And…are there any other products that I should look into to make me feel more secure?
Thanks,
Johanna

InactiveI don’t have any personal experience with them because Kaelyn was on a pulse-oximeter, but I know several people in the past have used the Angel Care monitor with success. I know that tummy sleeping is what saved us with Kaelyn.

InactiveI don’t know much about monitors, except that they are out there and you can probably find one online. The AAP does say that tummy sleeping is better for refluxers.

Inactivei bought a angel care monitor and it gave me some peace of mind. my dd had choking apnea episodes. the monitor is about 100$ and that is a small price to pay for any peace of mind. you can get them on ebay for even cheaper. some may be used but they look like they are in good condition. the monitor will alarm if no movemnet is detected in i think 20 seconds. it’s a very sensitive monitor and will pick up any movement. there are also other products like the tucker wedge/sling, the amby bed. i would deff look into geting the monitor. just make sure that you put a hard flat surface under the monitor like a peice of plywood or a hard board this is what they reccommed so that the monitor pad won’t move around. good luck and i hope you can get some sleep soon

InactiveMy son slept only on his tummy until he was 21 months old. He also has/had tracheomalacia and laryngomalacia – which are floppy airways, he would actually have trouble breathing if I laid him on his back! He also had sandifer’s. What gave me comfort was the fact that I knew – from the sandifer’s – that he had great neck control and had no problem lifting his head up, so I didn’t worry about him getting smothered, because I knew he could move! He was actually a loud breather too, so I could always hear him breathing on the monitor.

InactiveWe had the angel care monitor – it works pretty well although we did have a couple of scares…. Matthew had moved all the way to the bottom of the crib a couple of times and the monitor did not pick his beat up. We bought it because matthew would choke.

InactiveWe did tummy sleeping with both boys as it was the only way we got sleep. They both still sleep on their tummies. We did not have a monitor after we left the hospital with Dylan but we did have a monitor for Carter for other reasons, but we don’t use it at all anymore.
As long as they could lift and turn their heads I felt pretty safe, but you need to do what gives you the most comfort. If he is sleeping 12 hours on his belly but you are a wreck because you are not comfortable, then that defeats the purpose. I would get the angle care monitor if that makes you feel better. Pretty soon he will be rolling over anyway and there will be no avoiding what position he chooses to sleep.
Good luck!!

InactiveGot my monitor the other day and am going to try it during the day a little – until we get used to it – and then hopefully use it at night! I hope this helps!

Inactivejohanna—when ihad my first 5 kids we were told to sleep them on their stomachs because they might spit up and choke when they were on their backs. i never had problem sleepers until after the back-to-sleep program. all four of my younger children did not sleep well for the first several months. the last two i endud up putting on their stomachs pretty early.

InactiveAbby started sleeping on her stomach at 10 wks b/c it was the only way any of us could get any sleep. Like Ann Marie said as long as they have good head control it should be fine. I would think at his age you would be okay.
