InactiveI also posted this in one other area, but I thought maybe I would get more responses here. can anyone give any insight on when and how they weaned thier children from two naps down to one? A lot of times I put Brianna down for her nap and she doesn’t even seem tired, but if I don’t do it then, she will end up not going to bed until 8-9pm…so we are thinking about trying to combine the naps…she is kind of young for this…only 10 months…what do ya’ll think?

InactiveNot real sure on this one. Abby is almost 8 1/2 months old and takes a 1 1/2-2 hour nap in the AM and again in the PM (at least when we are home on weekends – daycare is sometimes a different story) and sleeps from 7:00pm-7/8:00am so she obviously still needs the sleep. I can’t remember when Kayla went to having only 1 nap. I really think it is probably trial and error, like so many other things. Does she sleep well at night? Hopefully Karen (the sleep expert) will chime in on this topic – she has so many great ideas!!

InactiveOwen is 9m – we give one 45min nap at 10am (I wake him) and a 1.5-2h nap at 2pm and he is in bed at 7pm. I think as time goes by his AM nap will get shorter and later, and I will put him down for the PM nap earlier until they kind meet – making one big PM nap. At least that’s our plan lol. Some babies need a longer AM nap and shorter PM, and vice versa, I find it really depends on the baby as to what it needed.
Karen is fabulous, I am sure she will have more insight on this. Good Luck

InactiveMy DD went down to 1 nap at 15 months. I found that she would just not want to take a nap in the afternoon. My twins took 2 naps till they were 2!!!! God I miss those days!

InactiveMatthew is 14months and still takes 2 naps – but he does not sleep more than 9hours at night and his naps add to maybe 1.5hours in total during the day… and he is never cranky and he is never overtired!! So i would say, all kids are different!!
Myles (Christine’s ds) has been on one nap for a while…. maybe since he was 10months old and that works well for him!

InactiveYeah, my little guy (Myles) has been on one nap since about 9 months, and even before that was taking a very short morning nap and a longer afternoon nap.
I really wanted it that way (one nap a day) because I have two girls who take a nap in the afternoon. So, if Myles took a morning nap, and then they had their afternoon nap, he wouldn’t be ready for his afternoon nap until their’s was half done, so basically we’d be tied to the house all day napping! While his reflux was bad I never went out anyway, but once he was better and stopped puking I wanted to get out of the house more.
So, I started waking him from his morning nap after 30 minutes, or running errands in the morning so he’d cat nap in the car, and that helped him transition to one nap a day. There are still some mornings that he could use that morning nap, but on those days a quick snooze in the car usually will get him through.

InactiveKaelyn went to one nap a day around 14 months. She probably could still have used two naps a day, but daycare was on a one nap schedule, so she switched to their schedule.

InactiveAidan has a weird schedule, he wakes up at 6, plays from 6-7, then naps from 7-8, then he has another nap around 1, soemtiems later..we have to work around his older brother’s schedule, then he goes to sleep at around 7ish so he takes 2 1 1/2 (sometimes 2) hour naps a day. (he’s 10 months 2) basically, Aidan sleeps when he’s tired,, I didn’t put either of my kids on a schedule when it came to naps.
