InactiveI can’t say that I am surprised, but I am disappointed. I cut him from 7.5 twice a day to 7.5 once a day. The first day he was making all kids of glurpy noises and then shaking his head. By the second day he was getting congested for at least an hour after eating and was back to choking and gagging off and on throughout the day. I am pretty sure I caught him doing the head to his should thing that the GI and Neuro both said was most likely Sandifer’s. He did it so fast that I was not totally sure.
He was acting perfectly happy and eating great so I decided to stick it out and make sure. He would not go back to sleep after his bottle last night. He just kept crying and fussing. I gave him some mylanta and finally after an hour he went back to sleep.Today I gave him some water in his straw cup (which he usually loves) He made a bunch of weird glurpy noses and then went into a major head shaking fit. He started throwing the cup around the room and ‘yelling’ at it. I have no idea who he gets that temper from.
He went down for his nap and woke up crying after a half hour. He does this sometime and will go right back to sleep. I let him go for 15 min and then got him up and gave him some mylanta. He did a couple big burps and shook his head a ton. He was totally miserable and I could not do anything for him, so I put him back to bed. I have been listening to him cry for the last half hour. It is tearing me up, but there is nothing I can do. He does not like to be rocked and he just throws him self out of my arms and then cries to be picked back up.The good thing is that dh was home to see it all. He has been saying that Sebastian does not need the meds anymore for months. After seeing the look on his face when he burped and listening to him cry he said, “so your gonna give him the medicine tomorrow morning, right?”I feel so bad that I put him through this, but he can’t stay on Prevacid forever and there is no other way to know if he still needs it. I just feel so mean for doing it to him. Well he is finally stopped crying so hopefully he will sleep for a while.October 16, 2006 at 2:48 pm #15814Anonymous
InactiveKatey:
So sorry to hear it didn’t work
but really that is the only way to know if they still need the meds or not. It is such a guessing game – I am sure little Sebastian will forgive you. Hope things get better soon!!Robin

InactiveKatey, I’m sorry to hear that the med cut didn’t work. But I wouldn’t beat yourself up about it. Reflux is such trial and error. Hopefully he’s back to his happy self soon!

InactiveSorry it didn’t work but I have to give you a lot of credit. There is no way I could have tried that with Emma at that age, I was so scared!! At least you can say you tried. Emma’s over 19 months and still on 30 mgs and I just decided this weekend to try and cut her down. i only did 5 mg though. So now I do 10 mgs in the morning and 15 at night. I know you don’t want him on Prevacid forever and he probably won’t be just don’t beat yourself up, his turns coming

InactiveKatey,
I’m sorry to hear that he can’t come off of his meds yet.

But, don’t be so hard on yourself. Two good things came out of this. 1. You know the meds are helping him because he was better on them. And, 2. DH is on board with you now.
Oh, and talk about tempers. Myles takes the cake.

I hope Sebastian feels better soon.

InactiveKatey,
I am so sorry it didn’t work…I know we were both hoping he wouldn’t need the meds. I will let you know how our med cut down goes at the end of the month. And don’t beat yourself up…you were trying to do whats best for him…I pray that next time it will work!
Best of luck,
