I posted this question somewhere else too, but wanted to start a new thread in hopes of helping anyone else who has a similiar question.

Can the Prevacid solutabs be crushed? I was reading a thread that was talking about not doing that…the way I give it to my son now is to completely crush it (dry) and then dampen my finger again and again and basically let him suck off a little each time (sounds/is kind of gross….hehe). Am I doing it wrong???

I don’t think that’s a good idea. They are not supposed to be crushed because crushing them destroys the enteric coating and then the drug is degraded in the stomach. They can be divided carefully (split it half) and held inside the cheek to dissolve, or dissolved in water and then administered via spoon or syringe.

Christine is correct you can’t crush them because of degradation of the medication.

WOW! Well, I am here to attest that crushing the tabs is a huge NO, NO! I was wondering why Jacob seemed to be going backwards…despite increasing his meds this past Monday from 15 to 30mg! I was so upset, but then did a little reading and posted this. THANK YOU! I will not be crushing the tabs EVER AGAIN!

Glad to hear that you figured things out. You can dissolve them in water but no crushing!
