InactiveWe are hoping to get prevacid solutabs from the dr next week but the problem is my daughter is now not feeding well due to the pain.
She is refusing solids most of the time and sleep breastfeeding.
So i can easily give her the tabs on an empty stomach and wait 30mins but then i am not sure if she will eat or not. She may only eat 2oz or none??!!
Will it still work if she only feeds a bit or should i start off giving the tabs at times when i know she will eat more, like when she is sleepy or asleep??
What did everyone else do? Also how long does it take to kick in if we are swapping from prilosec to prevacid?
Thanks

InactiveI have heard of people not timing a meal and still having success with the meds, but really the effectiveness can be greatly reduced (I think Joel said by u to 70 percent if not given on an empty stomach and followe up with a full meal at 30 minutes. But you do what you can.
We were never able to use the solutabs because I couldn’t get her to eat on cue. She took them well, but they didn’t work because she wouldn’t eat enough or would refuse altogether. Can you get the capsules and put them in CaraCream. Ultimately, that’s what’s worked for us the best. Good luck.

InactiveI give my daughter her prevacid first thing in the morning…that seems to be when she is the most hungry…we used to give her prevacid 2x a day and when I did that, I just did my best to make sure she had not eaten two hours before (trust me, it didn’t happen every time, but like I said, I did my best)…I know the 30 min rule can be a pain…I never used CaraCream, but so many people here have talked about it’s wonders….good luck!

InactiveMyles was only eating 2 (sometimes 3) ounces per feeding when he first started on the Solutabs. I did give them on an empty stomach and feed him 30 minutes later, and even with the small feedings he did improve dramatically within 10 days, and then he began taking bigger feedings and he improved even more over the next several weeks.
So, I’d say do the best you can….try to give them on an empty stomach and feed her 30 mintues later, even if it means waiting until she is sleepy. Once she’s feeling better she will hopefully begin to eat while awake and take larger feedings.
Good luck with the solutabs. They were the miracle cure for my little guy.
I hope they work as well for your little sweetie.November 19, 2006 at 1:49 pm #18402Anonymous
InactiveKaelyn was only taking 2 1/2 oz at a time when we started the solutabs and they made a big difference for her.

InactiveThey work great for Aidan and I am an on and off timer, as in I time them when I remember to
, but I always give them to him before he eats, in the morning it’s on an empty tummy but not always followed up 30 mins later with a meal, I wait til he wants to eat, which is sometimes 15 mins after, sometimes 20, sometimes like an hour, but the afternoon dose, he just gets that before he eats, he eats a lot of small meals during the day as opposed to 3 set meals so it’s very hard to time anything. But even with the not timing, it has worked wonders for him. I probably would time the medication if his schedule were different though.November 19, 2006 at 3:36 pm #18409Anonymous
Inactivethanks, it sounds like it should work anyway. When she is eating better it will be easier to feed her properly so it will be just to begin with.
I have used the caracream with omeprazole already and while it was good it tasted foul and my daughter threw it up. I know the prevacid is meant to taste better.
It’s just a pain getting it. I did ask for some more to be sent but it never arrived and still hasn’t after requesting it again!
If the solutabs don’t work then i will have to try and get the capsules and keep bugging them to send me caracream. I’m wondering how much stock they have left though?
