InactiveIan’s been doing so well on a dairy trial for a month now. First baked in foods, then butter, then yogurt, and now cheese(only for the last 4 days). He’s been in great spirits, fine poop (he used to get mucous and blood on dairy), sleeping great, no rash, reflux controlled, etc. So we are starting to think-yeah-he’s outgrown it. BUT today, he had a few bites of cheese (and didn’t really want it-in fact, he didn’t eat much of it yesterday either-can’t tell if it’s the taste or just bored with it..), then we switched to a muffin (mspi free that I made myself), and after a couple of bites, he started spiting up, then vomited morning bottle and all. No fever, and afterwards, great mood. So naturally, I think allergy but he had his lunch still in there completely undigested from yesterday (applegate beef hot dog-still cut in small pieces with peas). Funny thing was he ate dinner fine last night and that wasn’t in the vomit. So I’m confused. Daycare thinks it’s the undigesting that caused the vomiting and not the cheese, but then what caused him not to digest something (the hot dogs) that he eats all the time with no problem. Any ideas?? I have calls out to ped and allergist.
Thank you! I’d hate to stop dairy if it’s not the problem..

InactiveI know that Brianna has a hard time with the applegate farms hotdogs…she has never vomited, but everytime I give them to her, she seems to have a much harder time sleeping and all….Good luck and keep us posted.

InactiveIt’s just so funny because he’s never had an issue with them before. Strange.
I just got off the phone with the allergist and she wants us to give him tomorrow with no cheese but continue with yogurt. If he’s fine, try cheese again on Sat and see what happens. Then we’ll have a better idea.
I just don’t think that cheese would affect his ability to digest other foods, would it? Only thing that really makes me suspect is that he loved the cheese the first two days but by the third, he lost interest. Probably boredom though because he did not appear to have a belly ache.

InactiveHot dogs take a long time to digest as well as peas. What did he have for dinner that wasn’t in his vomit? Brodie at 2-1/2 still doesn’t digest veggies very well. The other day my MIL took him to Friendly’s and she commented on how he loved pickles and how he ate his and hers, so probably about 6 round pickles. Well, the next morning his poop was full of undigested pickles. Gross!!! RLM4262006-12-14 12:51:31

InactiveBrianna is the same way with green beans and bluberries…they sometimes come back out whole! Let us know what happens

InactiveHe had chicken with a barley and squash porridge. Then some applesauce for dessert.
But I’ve never seen hot dogs come out in his stool or vomited up before? Do you have any idea why now? It seems he did process his dinner…maybe it was a reacton to cheese?
The pieces didn’t even looked chewed-he was at daycare when he ate it-maybe he just gulped them down??

InactiveI wouldn’t be to quick to blame it on the cheese…I know that might be it, but there is one thing my GI doc told me when trialing Brianna on dairy…I needed to look for a pattern and not just assume becuase of one bad day…and I am so bad at that…one bad day and I ALWAYS blame it on dairy.
MY poor daughter has about 10 teeth ready to come in anyday, and the other day when she woke up at night for all of two secsonds, I said, I must have been the dairy…but I got the courage to try again the next day, and last night Brianna slept for 12 hrs straight!I am not saying to discount the dairy, but just give it time…do as your allergy doc said, so that you aren’t avoiding anything without needing to.

InactiveIt’s very psooible he could have just gulped down his lunch. I have never seen hot dog in Brodie’s stools, but definitely in his vomit and it could be vomit several hours later after he ate the hotdog, never the next day, but…. Everything else was broken down into this white stuff and the hot dog looked almost unchewed as you mentioned. I don’t know what else to say, but maybe just keep trialing the dairy.

InactiveThanks everyone-yes, I guess wait and see.
Robin-Brodie’s vomited up hotdogs before too? Did it happen every time? Do you know what prodded the vomiting?

InactiveYes, he has vomited up hot dog, but it wasn’t from a bug or allergic reaction, it was from crying too hard. Sometimes, he gets so worked up from crying he vomits, not a very pleasant thing!!! Our ped. said he may ougrow it by 4!!! GEESH!!!!!

InactiveI hope that it was not the cheese. Update us when you figure it out!

InactiveI hate to say this but it could be (I know, don’t say it) a virus. We all had a stomach bug last week and the first thing I noticed in myself was that my last meal just would not be digested, and then later the puking and diarrhea started.
Also, like the others have mentioned, I’ve noticed in my three that some foods just take forever to digest. Corn, peas, beans, carrots, blueberries….I sometimes see these things undigested in my kids’ stools a day or two after they ate them.
I hope it’s not a virus, but I agree with the others to not give up on the cheese just yet.
Good luck.

InactiveWe also had that same virus at our house…keep us updated…sometimes the fever doesn’t come at the same time as the vomit…it didn’t for me.

InactiveBingo! It’s definitely a virus. He ate fine, slept well yesterday, but today has been vomiting every time he eats something. We’re now on straight liquids for a few hours (although he doesn’t really even want to drink.). Poor little guy. I feel so bad for him-he had two kids holiday parties today that we had to skip because doctor says it’s contagious. One consolation I guess is we can relax about the dairy!
Thanks for the support all. For those of you who had this-was it a similar pattern? I’m selfishly praying dh and I don’t catch it with the holidays coming up. Doctor said it typically lasts 2 -3 days so Ian shouldn’t have much longer to endure.

InactiveWe all had it here!
The girls had it for two days. Dh for two days, me for a day and a half, but poor Myles had it for six horrible days. I hope it’s a shorter course for Ian. It’s lousy that he has a virus, but great that he can probably continue with cheese as soon as he’s feeling better.
