InactiveWe have started a round of zithromax(sp?) for Sarah’s double ear infection. Thankfully the diarrhea has come to an end…let’s hope it doesn’t start over now! Anyway, I was reading the rx information and it says not to give within certain time frames of taking a magnesium or aluminum containing antacid…does that mean Mylanta??? I couldn’t remember for sure if it contained trace amounts of it. We aren’t supplementing any mylanta at the moment anyway…but I’m glad I read that information just to be safe.
Zegerid doesn’t contain those ingredients, does it? I wouldn’t think my doctor or pharmacist would have given it to us without mentioning it, but I’m just curious!

Inactivei am pretty sure mylanta contains those.. but the cherry mylanta has none aluminum i think( one of them)..

InactiveHmmm…..I’m really not sure about the Zegerid but Mylanta contains magnesium. Zegerid is not an antacid so it’s probably fine, but I don’t know for sure.
When my kids have been on Zithromax they usually would have some loose stools but nothing like the severe diarrhea that a virus causes. To be on the safe side you may want to make sure you put tons of desitin on her little doopa because the stools that are passed during antibiotic treatment can be a little harsh. I always give them some rice or rice cereal when they are on an antibiotic and that seems to help. Has she had rice cereal yet?
I’m sure she’ll do fine. My kids always tolerated Zithromax very well…..much better than amoxicillin. I hope her ear infections are gone for good!

InactiveAmy,
The Mylanta does have magnesium, but the Cherry Supreme does NOT have aluminum. It has calcium carbonate instead. I wonder why you can’t take the antiobiotic close to it… interesting… probably because it would make it move too quickly through the system to get any benefit?? Mylanta gives my little one diarrhea and gas, so maybe that’s it.
As far as Zegerid goes… I don’t think it has those ingredients in it.

InactiveI’m not sure what the reasoning is behind it either, but to be on the safe side, I’ll avoid the mylanta until she’s done with the antibiotic.
I am SO glad to hear that diarrhea from an antibiotic won’t be as bad as what she just got over. I’m *hopeful* that she won’t get diarrhea at all…wishful thinking!
Christine – I answered your rice cereal question in my other post…ooops…yes, she’s on it and LOVES it! OH – The other little baby at daycare now has diarrhea! He just started an antibiotic so I’m HOPING he is just having a reaction from that and he doesn’t have the virus Sarah just got over. I’d HATE for them to keep passing it back and forth!
We haven’t started probiotics yet. I will be finishing some Christmas shopping this weekend and will go to the store at the mall to get some. Would a GNC have what I’m looking for? I have to drive 1+ hours for good shopping and that’s the only store I can think of.
Otherwise I’ll order some from the website Robin gave me.December 14, 2006 at 10:45 pm #20448Anonymous
InactiveHas anyone found that Zithromax made their babies “wired”? I gave Sarah her first dose around 6pm and she went to bed around 6:45. DH was gone all evening and just returned home. I don’t know if Sarah heard his voice or what but when I peeked in on her (b/c she had started making noise after he got home) she was standing up in her crib bouncing up and down. (Holding onto the railing of course)
She is a HUGE daddy’s girl and goes spastic everytime she sees him, so I don’t know if that was it or what. I took her out to the living room for a second to see DH and then we went back to the nursery so I could try to bounce her back to sleep. She was wide awake so I gave up and just laid her down in the crib. I hope she’s not hyper and now won’t be able to sleep through the night! Eeeeeeeeeek!

Inactive* i meant no aluminum instead of none, just letting you guys know that i do know how to speak english

and i am not sure if GNC would carry it, they probably have the adult kind… i think i would call and ask before you drive over an hour!!

InactiveZithromax never had that “wired” effect on my kids. I bet she was just excited to see her daddy.

That’s good that she’s eating rice cereal. That may help prevent the antibiotic diarrhea. Hopefully she won’t get it at all!
